We have discussed many times how important it is to treat your water. My instructor who taught us Public Water Treatment told us a little story that I thought brings home the point.
He would visit schools with two jars of water and ask the students which one would they prefer to drink and they would always choose the same one,the one that had no smell, completely clear, no floating particles, etc... They would turn their noses to the other jar which had a faint chlorine smell and under very close inspection and comparison, had just a little bit of particulate and/or cloudiness. Do you know what type of water they chose and refused?
They always chose the wastewater filtrate over their own tapwater. When treating the tapwater, the chemicals used may leave some particulates/cloudiness that have no affect on the quality of water. The tapwater they refused carries a chlorine residual which is to keep any bacterial/viral growth from occurring after the treatment at the plant in case there were any breaks down the line. The process that was used to treat the wastewater is mainly physical though some chemical treatment is used, but it is still not the best idea to drink.
Kinda puts in perspective that what we think could be the best water to have is nothing but crap!
