    Default Firesteels-Does brand realy matter?

I have bought firesteels from both "light my fire" and "firesteel.com" and it seems to me that when i use the same striker and the same method the light my fire brand produces more sparks with less effort..has any one else had a similar experience or does any one know why this may be?

I've got about five or six different brands of firesteel type tools. For me, the larger rod from firesteel.com (Armegedon) and the scraper that came with it seems throw the most sparks. They all work well, and I like my Blastmatch for it's ability to be operated with one hand. It may throw just as many sparks, but with pressing it against a working surface, the sparks are directed into a small concentrated area.

I also have the armegedon rod,i got the "survival pack" deal (i think thats what its called..) Dont get me wrong i like the ones from firesteel.com i just cant get them to throw as many sparks with the original striker. I have been looking into getting a blast match for a while now..i have seen some demos on youtube that make me all warm and fuzzy inside!

Matt I have the fireball flint and striker from Safezone LLC and the 5pak from Firesteel.com Personally the fireball is easier for me to use,Than the firesteel.com one. I think the material is softer in the fireball thus easier to strike. On the other hand the firesteel.com seems to have more intense sparks that are longer lasting. But both work equally well in starting a fire.

I have also noticed that the firesteel.com rods throw a longer lasting spark than the light my fire ones. The light my fire rods are much softer than the firesteel.com brand. Personaly i always have to use a diffrent striker with the firesteel.com ones though..not realy a problem, just something i have noticed.

I have really liked my firesteel.com firesteels. They give great sparks (which I cleverly used to burn a few holes in one of my wife's new comforters - not smart at all) and have lit many a fire for me.

I too bought their "survival pack," but have found that I really don't care much for the smaller sizes. The larger two sizes are still plenty light and their increased bulk makes it easier for me to hold onto the steel thus allowing for easier and better sparking.

I have not been a super big fan of their striker. I get sparks from it, but nowhere near as easily as I get them when using the back of a knife.

LOL! sometimes the urge to strike one is almost to great..

i use the edge of the pliers on my multi-tool and the firesteel.com ones work great for me that way.
