Water and activated carbon pellets

I have been reading all the info shared here on the site regarding water filtering and such. After reading the how to make your own filter I decided to give it a shot.

Before I could start I wanted to get the activated carbon pellets. Yesterday I was at a local Goodwill store(second hand shop) just looking through a box of misc for 99 cents each. I found 4 activated carbon filters in the box new for 99 cents. Each filter is good for 200 gallons under ideal conditions. It took a lot of the guess work out of the how much of the carbon was needed and it has some handy prefilters supplied with it. It is a good way for me to give this a try.

Anyway the second hand shops may have some of the goods you may need for some of the DIY projects. Just thought I would pass it along.

Tuesday is old folks day at Goodwill around here. I'm old enough to get the discount and still young enough to elbow the old geezers out of the way. Life is sweeeeeeet!

Check the goodwill for BDU's as well. I never buy BDU's online anymore because Good will often has them for $5. I just picked up two full sets to use as loaners for my course in Brazil for a total of $20, not too shabby for like new tropical weight ripstop BDU's. They have some PA national guard patches that have to be removed but that's OK by me.

On activated charcoal pellets. Any large pet store will have them and one carton will last you years in the small type of filter I use. Of course the more carbon you incorporate in the filter the better it works, but also the larger it will be. You have to come to some sort of compromise.

I have adapted several types of filter cartridge in various home-made filter designs and some worked very well other not so well. I have come to the conclusion that the loose pellets make it much easier to craft exactly the filter you want. Mac
