    Default What were they thinking?

Seems like they were a cute young couple. They called it a "role playing game." Seems like someone took it a little too seriously.
"When young men seek to be like you, when lazy men resent you, when powerful men look over their shoulder at you, when cowardly men plot behind your back, when corrupt men wish you were gone and evil men want you dead; Only then will you have done your share." -Phil Messina

That is a sad a tragic story, But I cant help and wonder what kind of training have they received, My guess would be very little other than maybe what they saw on TV.

Yep, a sad and tragic story for sure. As was said little training (probably none) and watching too many movies.

Of course, it could have all gone according to plan. Let's see, $2 million insurance policy. Plead guilty to an assault change. Oh, this guy is gooooooood.

    Everybody repeat after me..

I CAN HAVE AN ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE

Now repeat that as often as you need to until it starts to sink in. The worst mentality around guns is casual familiarity, you need to cultivate Obsessive Compulsive gun handling habits. Every time you pick up a gun you need to focus and repeat, I can have an AD.

I was once walking down the train tracks with my brothers hunting groundhogs. Our youngest brother was behind us in line when he fired. We both turned around and asked what he shot at. The gun was at waist level and pointed towards the swamp. He said, "It just went off!" Of course we didn't believe him. Upon examination we discovered that the rifle would fire as the safety was taken off and that the safety could migrate to off on it's own.

I have a close friend that was shot through the hip/buttocks by an AD (9mm ball)at a gun range. That round passed through him and stopped in another shooters thigh.

A friend had an AD at his shop. A customer brought in an AR-15 that had malfunctioned. He failed to mention the live round in the chamber. The round struck a guy sitting cross legged hitting his left thigh, right calf, and left ankle.

    Don't get sloppy.

That's when the Feds may get involved. No double jeopardy there. Just sit back and wait until that insurance claim goes in the mail.

    Mac, that is sound advice.
As I was always told , when you pick up a firearm yours or any firearm, clear the chamber, clear it again, never assume its unloaded even if it is treat it as if it wasnt and clear the weapon.
And if you and a buddy or spouse want to practice clearing a building they make really cool blue and red guns just for such training.

Knock wood it's never happened to me. I assume every weapon I touch is loaded and check it no matter who hands it to me. When I hand a weapon to someone else I always hand it over with the bolt back, the slide back or the cylinder open. Having a wrench slip and skinning a knuckle is one thing. Having a weapon accidentally discharge is always preventable.
