Why survivalism and politics don't mix well...
3 weeks ago my mother died. She was 79 and had been healthy up until 6 weeks ago when she was diagnosed with lung cancer due to a lifetime of tobacco. So we are all hurting in my family as she was always the reasonable parent, and will be sorely missed.
So in the midst of all this mayhem, there is something very odd going on... My folks live in separate houses, but are still married, and after her death, my dad and brother are over there searching hi and low for... something...
Turns out my conservative dad had freaked out after Obama got elected and was CERTAIN the world would come to an end after the inauguration. He is a wealthy guy, not major wealthy, but extremely comfortable. He was freaked out though, and he took a LARGE amount of cash out of the bank and gave it to my mom with the instructions to put it in the safe as the banks were going to collapse in January... Well, She was always a democrat and a liberal, and it turns out she didn't put it in the safe...
And nobody knows where it is... And I think she finally got the last word. My daughter is convinced it was on purpose and thinks she may have donated it to a liberal cause before her death.
I think there is a lesson here for all of us. maybe several? Not exactly sure what it is yet, but I am thinking deeply about it.
