Cordage

I've been looking for natural cordage to use for a bush shelter is there any specific quailtys to look for in it I have tried useing some stringy vines i have found but when I try to knot or tie it, the vines split or break some help please

Try the inner bark of willow or stinging nettles. Mac

Stinging nettle dos make good cord if you know how to do it but it sucks making it. Iner bark is much faster and dosnt hurt. Many trees have iner bark that works well you just have to test which ones you like best in your area

Dried milkweed if you happen to have it where you are. Very good fibers.

Palm leaf fibers are very strong and flexible. I usually use some kind of plant roots that are long, strong, and stringy.

If you are using green vines....try heating them over a fire. this will prevent most vines breaking. try to avoid vines that a very "fleshy" or ones that have a high water content. I think other methods are covered in this forum.

Vampire, you have to use the fibers to MAKE cordage. Raw fibers alone are not strong enough for most things. After making the cordage, then you use the homemade cord to tie something.
