I have an ancient boonie hat that I've worn just about everywhere. It's that one hat that feels good no matter what the weather is and you just can't seem to get rid of it. Brush it off, sew it up, do whatever you have to but you just won't part with it. So I figured it was time to spruce the old fella up a bit. I went to Wally's Mart and picked up some metal eyes from the craft section and installed one on each side so I could install a neck lanyard. I've had the wind yank it off a time of two and this little addition might help. And I hate hiking through the woods carrying my hat because it's too hot to wear it so I can just let it hang. I used a cord lock compass at the end.
I also added 20 feet of 550 cord around the brim. I used a loose Cobra knot and left a ponytail hang off the back of it. You could probably get 30 feet or more on it if you tightened up the braid.
Just thought I'd share in case it gives anyone an idea or two.
