Mulungeon ancestry revealed

We've talked about the Mulungeons on the forum in the past. It was thought that the Mulungeons were of Portuguese and native American decent.
Then science stepped in and changed the popular belief.

The road to who each of us are is a long and winding road dating back millions of years. I find it intriguing and more than a bit humbling that DNA has been passed down for eons to make me who I am today. And the same is true for all of us. Imagine a family lineage THAT long and that old. And they still talk about crazy Uncle Grog from the Neanderthal side of the house. Good post, Randy. Genetics is revealing some amazing things about human evolution.

Whatever I believe all humans came from common ancestors so the so called mixing of the races may eventually be necessary to deduce genetic problems.

Many people from the Iberian peninsula (Portugal and Spain) have traces of sub-Saharan DNA tracing back to when that area was ruled by the Moors. This was just before Queen Isabela and Fernand and that Italian dude who borrowed those 3 little wooden ships from them to sail west if y'all remember. Something once heard a history teacher taking on and on about, like it was important or something.

Edit: Current and future generations may wish to trust scientists to cull through and select the best genes in a lab but this never seems to work out very well for a long list of reasons. The overall trend in human genetics that I have observed in the data for the last few thousand years has been a devolution not an overall impovement. This is especially true in small genetically isolated communities. Far north Finland for example and remote islands.

My family on MF side refers to the use of nationality in mid Europe in the mid 1800's as to who ever was in power at the time.
Some time it was better to be Polish, or Czech, or Austrian.....

Slightly different than DNA, but the reasoning is similar.

I was reading a article a while back about blue eyes. The article said that all people with blue eyes had the same one common ancestor.
Then I was watching a show called "Heaven is for Real". A true story about a kid that had a near death experience and had went to heaven. Anyhoo in heaven Jesus had blue eyes. Hmmm, I have blue eyes LOL

I worked with a guy that had one blue eye and one brown eye. For real. He said all mass murders had different colored eyes. I generally apologized to him each time I saw him. You can never be too careful.

Growing up in that region there were many legends of the Mulungeons varying from their decent from ancient Egyptians to left over Spanish/Portuguese colonists to decedents of the Welsh Prince Modock.

I can never remember anyone saying anything negative or derisive about their ancestory.

After all, it's not like they were Yankees or something weird like that!

It is not derogatory or derisive but just a historic fact that the mother of Ismael (Abraham's oldest son) was an Egyptian, possibly originally from sub-Saharan Africa that is where all the Arabs (and Moors) got that DNA from originally but possibly more later from intermarriage.

There is no actual blue pigment, blue eyes are a sign that a person or animal has no pigmentation in their eyes. My father had blue eyes mine are hazel, possibly part of the reason why I am sensitive to bright light. Just a theory.
Some people from Africa have more resistance to West Nile and Malaria viruses than European DNA people. If this science lead to a vaccination for these viruses it would be great.

It should be noted that Portugal was the first post middle ages European country to begin shipping African slaves in 1444. Eventually they had shipped an estimated 4,650,000 enslaved Africans, far more than any other country. It is possible that some of these made it to Appalachia and intermarried with Portuguese explores or sailors hired by Spain. I have found some places in the western USA with Portuguese names not Spanish given buy such explorers. DNA can be interpreted many ways, best to know all your history. I have found that some second tier media (pulp like Huffington) just rush to publish without doing much research or getting the full story.

I'm interested in the Mulungeons. They show strong Neanderthal traits (such as shovel teeth). I manifest just about all the Neanderthal traits - teeth, rib cage, brow ridge, immunity...... I live with others with strong Neanderthal traits and we're a community of such people. All I've seen about Mulungeons and Neanderthal are the teeth, though. I don't know if they show anything else.
