Day time coyotes?

The boy and I were out on the lake Thursday fishing (not catching)...

We were on the pontoon boat pulled way back in a long finger of the lake, wooded mountains rising up on three sides of us.

We had been there for about an hour ... when all around us we heard...

Yip Yip Yip Yap Howl Yip Yip Yip...

Coyotes are generally nocturnal but will hunt in the daytime in areas not frequented by humans...

Any theories on what might have caused the coyote excitement?

Might have been a litter of pups out exploring. Just a thought.

Yote's will hunt anytime, I've called & seen them in the middle of the day , they do move alot more at dusk & dawn but they will hunt in the day also ! Like they said it could have been a few young yotes out.

Yea there out in the day here too I think though not as often. I really like hearing them. Some visited me last night when I was sleeping outsid. It kinda startled me at first cause one came close and it didnt see me till it was really close then it got startled barked lol

and too, when they're not hunting or worried about some kind of threat, they're very playful,so you could have just caught them goofing around coyote style (unless one of them just passed a peach pit, that one wouldn't feel playful)

How, exactly, do you call them?

Dumb question probably... but is there a device - like a turkey call or something?

i saw several coyotes out in the daylight while i was in Wyoming. it was late october into early novemeber.

it appeared to me they were working the ditches hunting mice.

They were not yipping or howling so i bet the ones you heard were in fact pups out exploring a bit while mom and dad hunted supper.
