Tsar Bomba, the largest thermonuclear weapon ever tested was only 50 megatons so I used tool to model a totally theoretical 100 megaton device going off over closest nuclear plant near me. My family is safe from this highly unlikely SHTF scenario. Now a ridiculously mythical 500 megaton device that this online tool does not even allow for??? What?

Most modern nuclear weapons are tactical not massively large. Even the strategic nuclear weapons of the last 20 years are mostly under 20 mt. That "kid" from North Korea could not get enough refined "fuel" to make a large weapon. Same for Iran, regardless of how much the Shia hate the Sunnis in Saudi Arabia.

I denoted an 880 KT bomb over Cincinnatti and it killed a total of 12. The rest seamed unfazed. I figure the 12 were out of state visitors.

I was outside the damage zone by quite a few miles.

Only joking here but! But if cyber spooks were to VPN some chatter between Saudi Arabia and Iran that made them appear to really ramp up their hostilities and then they launched some previously unknown stockpiles for nukes or dirty crude nukes at each other in a Shia versus Sunni sectarian conflict, would this make things better for American petroleum production and the longterm security of Israel. Model that with the simple little internet tool.

Putting things in Geo political context S.A. can for several years (perhaps 5) produce oil at as low as $20/barrel and still not go bankrupt while the USA which has a larger petroleum production capability has a production cost per barrel of closer to $70-80/barrel. Venezuela has larger proven reserves than Saudi Arabia but S.A. exports more and can increase or decrease their production with greater flexibility than any other country thus they control the price more. So long way back to the issue a Nuclear war between these two in 5-20 years could theoretically benefit the USA. But realistically speaking everyone loses in a nuclear war. I am just BSing. Aren't you glad I'm not the President of the USA? LOL

Historical (nuclear) context of my comment above:

The longest conventional war in the 20th century was the Iran–Iraq War between the Islamic Republic of Iran (Shia) and the Ba'athist Republic of Iraq (controlled by a Sunni minority) it lasted from September 1980 to August 1988. Approximately 500,000 Iraqi and Iranian soldiers and about that many civilians are estimated to have died, with many more injured; however, the war brought neither reparations nor changes in borders. During this war the Iraqis used weapons of mass destruction on the Iranians (mustard gas). Then on June 7, 1981 the Israelis bombed a French-built nuclear plant near Iraq's capital, Baghdad, saying they believed it was designed to make nuclear weapons to destroy Israel, heck Saddam would have tried it out on the Iranians first. So this is one motivation for the Iranians to REALLY REALLY want nuclear weapons at any cost. Not a neighborhood I want to live in or even visit very often. SHTF there is likely IMO.

Commentator on NPR the other day was talking about provoking the Russians and their nukes. Somewhat more worrisome than the "JV Team" dreaming about them.
