While I'm not a military tactician I was surprised that Mike Murphy...aka "Murph the Protector," didn't assign the other 3 to guard the goat herders while he took both the radio and sat phone and found a good location to reach his FOB. Once in contact he could then explain that his mission was compromised, request immediate evac and get the co-ordinates and time for an extract. Then, rejoining his men, they escort their prisoners to the LZ. Once the chopper arrives they release the hostages and all Rules of Engagement have been complied with. Just my thoughts, I don't know if that would have been doable.....
Mike Murphy must have realized that he had a law bearing his name. That being said, those guys fought their hind ends off and took many Taliban fighters down with them. It definitely was a costly victory for the Taliban! My wife had been monitoring Marcus for quite some time...She said that the movie compressed a lot of info and added/changed some things. By the end of Marcus' movement to the friendly Afghans, he was crawling on his hands...and BTW, his remarks about his brothers dying so that he could live I thought was a reference to his dying on the operating table before being resuscitated, not what he experienced in the field...![]()
