I have killed them with just about every method you could and a handful of methods you should. LOLCRIKEY! How was that caught? I mean, do you knock them over the head or what? Shoot them? I have no idea.
This was actually killed by a game warden while I was laying on top of it after a long fight. I used a treble hook to snag it and after many hours land it from the bank. It wrapped us so many times and I had to cut the line and race ahead to get in the water and grab the line and tie a blood knot in the line.
I was just about to illegally shoot it with my CCW when the game warden came over my buddy and I were literally laying on the gator catching our breath.
Don't hunt like us. LOLBatch, I'd love to hear some advice before my gator hunt!
Get our as early in the season as you can. Just like any game animal they get skittish.
Sharpen all your hooks as sharp as you can get them. Otherwise they will becoming back your way. I get a rope around the gator. I don't shoot or harpoon them. They get a whole new lease on life when you stick em. If your state lets you shoot them and the gator is tired and you don't try to get them all excited, a gator will just float there and at that range if you can't hit them with a .22 rifle... When you harpoon them they are gone, gone, gone!
Best tool in the kit is a good snare to get them so you can drag them out. I use a painter pole with a cable passed through it.
