    Default Thunder over Louisville

Today is the annual Thunder over Louisville celebration, that pretty much starts the Kentucky Derby Festival,Thunder is the largest fireworks show in the US,and there is absolutely no way on earth I would attend this event, live 20 minutes from Louisville and have never attended, due to the large crowds, and now even more so because of the security risks and such, especially after what happened in Boston, you just never know when a copycat is going to crawl out of the woodwork,or the river, since Thunder is held over the Ohio River.

A funny bit of info, there is a bridge across the Ohio here that for years and years has been out of commission,in fact it didnt even have ramps up to it,just some sort of access for inspections and such, until this year they have renovated said bridge as a walking path between KY and IN,and opened it on my birthday in Feb.(Indiana doesn't even have their ramp finished yet,Kentuckys has been completed for a couple of years),BUT they every year have shut down a bridge that IS a major access between the states, and shoot the fireworks off from that bridge....

So...the Indiana side is just a jumping off point? (I slay myself. I really do).

I'll bet if you guys hit one of the parks in Clarksville you'd have a birds eye view and miss the crowds.

Do you avoid sports events, concerts, a circus, a theatre?
If you stay inside because of fear, they win.

Perhaps I can say that because I am single and have no dependents but I'm not going to huddle in my house and forego the fun things because of some crazy person that might or might not be out there. A meteor could hit my house tonight. Enjoy life. You only get one chance.

Oh, heavens of course not. You've never seen my family get together for a meal. Now THAT'S a sporting event. It's sort of a cross between football and fencing. Lot's of shoving and fork stabbing goin' on.

About the closest we come to a concert around here is when two alley cats get into it. That's mostly annoying. But when my neighbor sicks his Pomeranian on the two cats then it does get a bit entertaining. That's one feisty Pomeranian.

For the circus I generally just hang around this forum.

As for the theatre, I have quit going to that. Not because of terrorists or gunmen. It's because someone always farts. It's never a loud obnoxious fart. It's always one of those silent creepers that has everyone looking at the guy next to him to see if he's the culprit. I had to stop going. Someone was bound to point the finger at me sooner or later. Have you ever noticed it's really hard to pull of a real creeper and keep a straight face? See? You're smilin' right now.

I thought the exact same thing. If you give in to these murderers, and lets face it, that's what they are, and alter your behaviour. Their terror tactics have achieved exactly what was set out and you have just handed over control to them.

@Rick, the niece and nephew have been training hard and I can confirm they are now eye gouging, elbowing, knee jabbing, fork stabbing champions, I may even enter them at the next Olypics. Now there's a sport I'd love to see, which country family could hold the buffet table the longest!

The only large gatherings I attend anymore - they are pretty much the only ones that interest me are some sporting events (NFL stadium a few miles away), political events and military events/ceremonies. I don't attend others simply because I have no interest.

    Do Jamborees count?

Winnie, my friends and I were doing a grocery run somewhere around Chester on one of our car trips around the UK. Went into some vendor stall-type market and there were signs up all over the place to be aware of suspicious looking parcels and people, with a phone number to call if you saw anything. It didn't make us leave the market. Nor a lot of other people either. At the time, it was part of the adventure.

Ummm yes to the jumping off point actually if Hoosiers wish to walk it,they must cross the river to the louisville ramp walk across, turn around walk back across exit the louisville ramp then cross the river back to Indiana, and no the parks and such fill up EARLY even the firetower hill in the Clark State forestry (right across the road from me) fills up early.

Yes I do avoid all those venues, but then I always have THEY have won nothing when it comes to me,I have been inside a movie theater 3 times in my life,a circus once, never been to a concert or sporting events other than my childrens ball games as youngsters. I have no desire to attend large scale events where God only knows what illnesses, drugs, thieves, etc seem to be common place,at 46 years old,I have NEVER seen a "joint" in person only what I have seen on television and in photos, simply because I do not put myself into those situations.

I've been in many joints and more than a few dives. Even a couple of saloons. But that's just me.
