Here is a question for you .308 users. I know there is a bit of difference between .308 Winchester and 7.62 NATO. But I've read that the 7.62 headspace is made to match the .308 and the 7.62 pressure is less so it won't damage a .308 weapon (but not the other way around). Have any of you used 7.62 in your .308 weapon?

YES, about 3,000 rounds. Never a problem. Not in auto-loaders, not in pump-actions, not in bolt-actions, not in single shot break-open actions.

The only problem would be if a reloader, had worked up a max power charge using commercial .308 brass cases, and then put that same power charge in a 7.62 NATO brass cartridge case, He could experience signs of higher pressure.

This is because military brass is generally thicker. Any experienced reloader would know to back off 2 grains when changing any other factor, ie primers, brass, dies, etc.

See the prevoius post I expanded that post. Remington and Federal, and Winchester make generic FMJ ammo. The primary ballistic difference would revolve around bullet type, bullet weight.

This is horrible advice. Have you ever looked through a Swarovski or Zeiss scope? There is no comparison. I have used lots and lots of American brand scopes- a few come close- but none match the best Austria has to offer

What I did say was, most foriegn scope turrets are calibrated to the metric system, and not the American standard system. And for long distance shooters who are working out their formulas and come ups, etc.........having metric turrets will cause your bullet to impact at a point that you didn't want it to. That is why I recommended staying away from them. Not their quality.

There is a difference in needs for Billy Bob the deerslayer, and the 1000 yard competition shooter. And since the OP was talking about shooting at extended ranges, that is what i was referring to.
