    Default Bush Survival Knife WIP

I'm working on a new set of five blades that are nice and simple survival tools, seeing as I instruct in primitive survival I wanted to have some to show off in February when I'm helping some boy scouts with their merit badges and trying to not have anyone get lit on fire But I knocked this blade up in a couple hours this morning and the only thing I'm waiting on is for the 550 para-cord to arrive...so until then I just mocked up the placement of the fire steel to see where I have to re-size it and it appears i have to chop off a 1/4 inch at the end to have it fit properly and then I have to figure out what I'm going to do for the sheath. Let me know what you guys think all comments and criticism are welcome (especially since this is a prototype) and as always thanks for looking!422299_2971895532774_1123338583_33062981_2029708872_n.jpg424988_2971931173665_1123338583_33062983_728059340_n.jpg

I like the look of the knife. I know the cordage is a mock-up, but I think leather strips would look better and be more in keeping with the style of the knife.

Nice looking blade, is it forged or welded to the rod/spring? whatever you made it out of?
Keep in mind the problem may be extremely complicated, though the "Fix" is often simple...

It's a little pointy for my needs.

Do you intend to unwrap the handle every time you start a fire?
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

I agree with it being a little pointy for my taste. I like them a little more stout. The handle looks very good and comfortable. A bit confused where the ferro rod is going to live. Do you intend it to be on the outside of the handle or fit just inside in the middle? Might be easier an more efficient to have the ferro rod incorporated in the sheath, and about the sheath I am a bit of a Kydex fan so that is my vote.

    Good start. I like it.

Thanks for all of the input guys...Cowboysurvival, I forged it from one piece from W2 steel. Winter, I have been trying to figure out the problem of where to put to fire steel I'm working on a few ideas but I may just have to put it in the sheath I'm just very torn about it but I should have a solution in a couple days to show you guys.

Too easy! I agree with the too pointy thought. I do like the handle and the polish on the blade itself. I'd paracord the handle as is and go with it. JMHO.
