Blue Springs State Park

I was out of town on business for a couple of days and made a detour on the way home for a little wandering in the woods. These springs feed the St. Johns River and are the largest springs that do so. There were a lot of Manatees in the springs (warmer water than the river) but were a little difficult to see. It was rainy and windy, but an enjoyable walk nonetheless. I'll have to go there some time on a sunny day.

Those are some great pics. The first time I got to see manatee in the wild was at Homosassa Springs. They also have a manatee rescue station there. What beautiful, graceful animals. I was a bit shocked at how large they are yet they seem like gentle giants. Thanks!!

Hey Crash Ive camped there a few times, the divings not the greatest so we dont get down there too often. I do remember the campsites had hybrid muscadines growing everywhere. Since there are so many Blue Springs in Florida we pt the county in the name. That ones Volusia Blue. Theres also a Gilcrist, Laffeyette, Suwannee, Jackson and Madison. Big ole rainbarrel fed the old house there but it may be gone now.

Thanks Crash! In my early teens we used to swim across the canal to "Spider Island" (we had BB gun wars on the island). Sometimes we'd get the treat of swimming along with the Manatees. Not something you easily forget.

Does anyone know if gators will attack manatee? I've never read of it happening. Gators seem to go after anything so I wonder why they don;t mess with manatee.

That sign is etched in my mind for every pot hole, dog dish, road grate, swimming pool and larger bodies of water in Florida. When I had to go down there on business I usually left the hotel room door open then peeked around the shower curtain on the odd chance one had found the bath tub. I left the door open for a clear escape route.
