weve had our freezer packed with jugs for as long as i can remember

my dad does it because it saves money and power. plus when we want ice, we cut the plastic and break the ice out with a hammer. Its nice because you get alot of varying ice sizes

AS, the last stone I had was nothing like I had ever experienced before. I had always passed them in less than 2 days until the one I got in 2006. 1.2 - 1.4 cm. That's big. It was located in such a way that it couldn't be blasted (I wouldn't allow it) or otherwise removed without major surgery. It took 4½ months (during which I could barely move) to move into the ureter where it could be blasted without the risk of planting hundreds of little "seeds" to grow new kidney stones. Had to get it blasted twice.

In the course of 4½ months with a kidney stone you'll try anything. I drank gallons of lemon juice. Heck, I even paid for an online "secret" way to dissolve it, knowing that it would likely never work. (It didn't.) I paid that jerk something like $100 to read that I should liquefy a bunch of asparagus in a blender and eat it before drinking a coupla' gallons of Coca Cola. Yeah, I tried it every day for a week. I would have tried almost anything. I drank about 100 gallons of all natural 100% pure no-sugar-added cranberry juice. Tasted like crap and all I did was pee more often, like a tablespoon worth once every 5 minutes, and even that was mostly blood. Nothing worked. But the Demerol every 2 hours helped take the edge off a tiny bit.

I got back home about an hour after the second "blasting session" and immediately went to the bathroom. Had to pee in one of these things.

Sounded like a machine gun. Over 100 pieces of "sand" the first time alone. Every piece was the size of one of the kidney stones I had before that monster.

Need ice? How about making a cool Solar Ice Maker. I actually am just starting such a project myself since I am off the grid and I have no ice when I need it, so after 7 years I decided to make a Solar Ice Maker. Was always too busy before building other things, but now I have the time and I figured it would be pleasant to have ice all the time when I wanted it. So if you are interested, look around the Internet for plans to make your own Solar Ice Maker. I currently have the plans on paper, but don't have a way to get it on here. I know it has to be out there somewhere on the Internet, it has been around for a while. There are several types, costs about 300-500 dollars to make depending how big or what kind you make. Cool idea for those just in case emergencies or if you are off the grid like I am.
