Default I need A good sander any recommendations ....

I sold a couple old parts guns and some ammo that i have no firearm for, now I am on the hunt for a good belt sander, so I can finish some of the knife blanks I have.
I'm looking for one that is not over a hundred bucks , the smaller the better, any recommendations.

    I love my Makita!

Wow, I just looked it up. Don't remember paying that much for it.

    WOW I don't either.
Anyway, I'm a Milwaukee fan, but I gotta believe that the prices are up there as well.

Up to about 5-6 years ago, I used to buy all Craftsman, but when they started selling all brands, seems the quaility has really headed for the Harbor Freight area in quaility.

    Hey Welderguy, How you doing!

I was in a Lowes today and they had a table top model like that for 129.00. It was a Skill brand. Maybe your local Lowes would order you one.

I thought about them Ken, but I hear so many bad things about harbor freight tools that I'm kind of Leary of trying them. but for 39.00 it wouldnt be that great of a loss.

I like that 4 inch belt sander with the 6 inch disk for 89.99 looks like that would be a good one for knife working. for the price I may just do it.

The belt sander you want, is like the Craftsman small combination unit I bought for the wife's crafts. (she lets me borrow it)
Been around a while, works well.

Harbor Freight stuff, works fine for light duty, once in a while stuff.

Got several -1/2" right angle drill, brench grinder, drill press, even a Mini electric log splitter, don't use 'em much, seem to be O.K.
But kinda bothers me when the include an extra set of brushes in a new tool?

Most all electric tools are made in China now, so it kinda of a toss up.

Welderguy - I have and still use the Harbor Freight 1 X 30 combo sander that Ken linked to. I use it mostly on my knife scales, but have made a few knives with it as well. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=34951

If you could spend 130 Sears has a 2x42 that I use/used. It is a solid grinder.

I can go all the way up to 200.00 but I was trying to stay around a hundred so I can spend the rest on supplies for making some handles and sheaths.

i've got the Ryobi 4600 and i use it constantly.

    it's a 4x36" belt with a 6" disk, and 4.3 amp.

the only problem i've had with it is the drive belt, but they are pretty cheap to replace. i've eaten through two of them, and that is due to running it too long between cool-downs.
