They're always ready (Semper Paratus).
I can hardly tell you all what respect I have for the USCG and CCG. A couple of you here know why I'm posting this.
Takes brains and guts to even get in, it gets tougher after that.
40,000 people do the work of 400,000.
Life saving, not life taking, unless they have to.
In Katrina, they were pretty much the only rescue operation worth a crap.
Why?
Because they are empowered to make individual decisions. No "top down" in emergencies.
These guys are the real deal. The more you learn about them the more you respect them. They never ask for attention.
In these cynical times, they keep the faith.
