Fear of "DEATH"

I don't want to be a burden to my family so no playing veggie waiting to wake up for yrs. No hesitation for the reasons you folks mentioned. Guess several of us have been close trying to figure out why the hell we were there. My last close call after the first few days in the hospital was kinda peaceful once you can accept it. I just want to go quick, and if I'm done in by someone I hope it was for something I believed in, and I took a few with me.

something in my own life i find funny is ive never benn afraid of death heck the doc said i wasnt going to live only my brother would but im here (laugh in deaths face)in my opinion if you dont live,love,minister,teach and generely enjoy your life your alredy dead

i fear death, especially after sittin through class today-comparative bioethics. the law has kind of made right to die/assisted suicide one giant pain in the a**. guess i'm mostly afraid of inadvertently losing the control to make that decision (thrown in a hospital, in a coma, without a durable power of attorney or clearly voiced preference).

Uh, I think you can fix that durable power of attorney, thingy. Along with a power of attorney for financial matters, a living will and a will. There, done. My bill is in the mail. Payable in bacon slices.

What's to fear? The unknown?

but soooo many don't, which leads me to believe that i won't, which means i'm the only one to blame

So why not get it done? I mean you already need to pony up the bacon to Rick.
If I get this right you have a wife and sandwich (baby) to think of. Seems simple to me. Sorry to pry.

yeah, i sure wouldn't want that sandwich left out in the cold

The lady knows not to plug me in, so does the family. but i have no children.

Law student, yes? Last year of law school? Shouldn't be too hard to put together. You don't have to pay Ken 500 lbs of bacon to do it.

I have strong spiritual convictions (which I won't go into), which allow me little worry about death. A couple of years ago I was in a shoot-out when I looked over at my partner and laughed out loud when I got a look at his eyes. They were wide as saucers and I could see his world had changed. He's probably a braver man than I for conquering his fear and not letting it consume him.

I won't say I'm without fear. I do think being paralyzed or crippled would be a really rotten way to live and I fear that, but death has little sting.

I always try to keep my beliefs or lack of beliefs out of forum type conversations. Personally I don't care if someone believe in the Easter Bunny as long as it comforts you.
Back in 1986 I came about as close to dying as I think I've ever come and there have been some close calls in my younger years, but this was what I thought "This is it".

I got caught in a big @$$ hydraulic on the Little Missouri river at flood stage and it would not spit me out and I could not swim out of it. I was taking in water and loosing breath at a pretty steady rate. I can clearly remember my thoughts as all this was going on and I had one thought on my mind.
"Who is going to drive my brand new truck back up to Illinois?"

This happened before I learned about he dynamics of how a hydraulic or "hole" works and it was the fact that I sank down out of the aerated water into a stronger current that pushed me out of the hole. Anyone familiar with white water kayaking will know this, but I wasn't that experienced at that time.

Short of dying some drawn out painful death, I can't say I have any fear of dying someday. I have a sense of grief for myself because of my consciousness ending because of my loved ones, but other than that... I hope it's with a bbq sandwich in one hand and a good crafted beer in the other.

Yep - I'm a little afraid of death.

But I am more afraid of long drawn out agonizing and emotionally / physically painful final walk for me and or my family - especially if that can be avoided.

The city is a far more hostile environment than the wilderness in many ways. I'm much safer walking in the woods.

I think I'll go have a blt now - hold the lt.

I have never been afraid of dying when I was faced with it. It was always latter that I had fear. Like right before falling asleep. When I had the accident with the ATV that broke my leg, I didn't fear that I was going to die although it was a real possibility. My fear was that my hunting partner would get hurt or lost going for help. Or that the helicopter while it was trying to land on the side of the mountain would crash. After I got to the hospital all my fears were put to rest. Verset is in many ways is a miracle drug.

Being afraid of death is what keeps you alive. Not being afriad makes you do arogant things in such situations.

Not true for me. Fear of great, horrible, self induced pain, keeps me from doing arrogant things in such situations. I ran over my own toe with the trash can yesterday morning and said something like, "arrogant s.o.b.!" or something like that.
