Discovery Channel Shows

Did a search on their web site. Looks like it airs again on June 26th.

i can't watch much television anymore. personally, even though discovery's new shows are pretty educational, i prefer the older national geographic-type stuff. about all i get to catch anymore is BBC News (can't stand american news). Still love the history channel, but their shows tend to focus on ancient or 20th century history, wish they'd hit the middle sometimes.

The BBC? The same organization Oleg Gordievsky called "The Red Service"? That BBC? The BBC that Director-General Greg Dyke, who was a Labour Party member, runs? Tony Blair's buddy? That BBC? Nothing like impartial news reporting.

Actually I don't know of any news organization that isn't slanted one way or the other anymore. You can't get through any of them without their personal "twists" on sh!t. They always edit things so it embellishes their particular left or right view.
It's a necessary evil, but you have to watch it with the attitude they are all ratings whores.

I miss the "Huntley - Brinkley report from years ago. I was too young to know if they slanted but they were cool.

Sort of my cut at it, too. Their job is to sell advertising and they talk about the news to accomplish that end. European news agencies are no better or worse that U.S. news agencies. If you stop and think about it. Some in the U.S. are contracted with European agencies and vice versa. It's cheaper than keeping offices all around the world. I read recently where CBS was talking to CNN about gathering their news.

News programs have long ago evolved into "Entertainment" type shows. If you watch MSNBC, CNN, FOX.... notice how they put hot babes on now as anchors.

I hear that. My favorite two areas are WWII, which they cover a lot (fortunately), and the Colonial and Revolutionary era which they tend to overlook.

A.R., I've been to that local Walmart there in Hope quite a number of times. I can see why you'd watch those babes on t.v.

I don't know how new the bias in news coverage is. I truely believe it has been around quite a while, but is now being exposed due to multiple sources (competion - internet, cable, etc.) For me at least, it has made me a "better consumer" of news. It is now rare that I take a news story of consequence at face value. I use multiple sources to dig into the facts. It's truely sad that that is needed to get to the truth, but inquiring minds want to know.

Aye, I do the same thing.. sort of watch the same story from different sources and for lack of a better term, "average it out".

I think it's always been there. Ben Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanac was a compilation of sayings and information that he either stole from someone else (often his brother including the title) or modified someone else's words. And we worry about sex today but that was a mainstay for Ben. That and bathroom chores.
