Thread: Preparing a campsite

I'm not mad, Crashdive. No need to be.

First I don't "Camp" for the sake of Camping. I am a bowhunter. When I am in the wild I am hunting or scouting, period. I am not rich. I will not, cannot, spend $300.00 for a sleeping bag or tent. I like to travel light as I have back problems and at times have to cover as much ground as possible looking for or scouting Elk. I don't stay at KOA campgrounds.

I'm not a politically correct hippie type that is into saving some beetle or packing out my crap either. I will take down branches but most times the winds and storms do my works for me, seek and you will find.

I am a solo hunter as my hunting buddys are in other states and I haven't seen them for several years so I spend more time hunting back country than I would with my friends.

Nothing much that I can teach that most don't already know here. All I can do is explain my comment so people don't make asses out of themselves by talking out their back side.

So. I am a buwhunter that has moved from where his buddys are and hunt solo. I have spent days and weeks at a time alone in the woods chasing Deer, Elk and Bear. My pack has little room for a tent and I sleep in debris huts in the woods. I do not "camp" over the weekend with kids.

Believe it or not this is me and the only reason I spend time in the woods is to hunt.

Wow. Color me impressed. Someone who spends so much time in an environment can have so much disdain for those that believe in protecting and prolonging it.

Peace time. It's going nowhere. Pull up the anchors and start the engine. We're headin' for the dock. Everyone had their say so let's end it here. Thanks.

This a survival forum or what?
Disdain for those that believe in protecting the enviroment? That's what you said? Why are my beliefs inferior to yours? Am I missing something here or am I clearcutting large tracts of forest to build a log cabin? Give me a break!
I'm into surviving. Most if not all I need are already on the ground but if I need to I will chop down a few branches. Sorry. Now if you guys want to get into some kind of mob type mindset about that go for it.
I don't think Tom Brown or Ron Hood would mind what I have said here.
Regardless. I'm happy you are impressed.

I just read all the post since my post on here and it appears that I hurt someones feelings. Zindik, I apologize for insulting you. Sometimes I am rather tactless when I speak. TDW says my verbal filter has a big hole in it.

Dang, I didn't mean for all this to turn into an argument. I guess I should have been more specific. By 'campsite' I was referring to a cabin tent with a big fire and some sort of bathroom amenities if TDW tags along.

Don't worry about that Sam, if you're not starting the occassional argument around here, you're probably doing something wrong
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

Gonna be some love makin' thrown in.
I can sure go for that. Who all is gonna be there?
    Just me and you.

Rick you are going to scare all the young'uns. Nothing worse then an old man talking about which way his door swings to give folks nightmares.

Friends don't let friends drink and drive. They'll give you a ride back home even though they know you are probably going to puke all over something.

But they always get back at you because friends will let friends married and wreck their life a lot worse than they would have wrecked their car.

Looking back I wouldn't change a thing. Excuse me but I have to go see what TDW wants now.

I've done quite a bit of outside time in pine forests. Rather than use pine boughs, I prefer to use pine straw when there is enough of it on the ground. For me it's much more comfy.

Don't you get chiggers in pine straw, though? Especially in FL? No frost to kill them.

I haven't had a problem with chiggers from the pine straw (but look out for the Spanish Moss) probably because i cover it with a large ground cloth.
