    Default Preparing a campsite

When most folks are choosing a place to set their tent they usually just look for a level spot then place several blankets or an air mattress in the tent to sleep on. I always soften up the ground with a mattock nearly to the point that it would seem I was going to grow something there then place the tent on top of that.

    Does anybody else do this?

A pulaski is a double headed wildland firefighting tool that combines an axe with a mattock

I make a bed of pine boughs that I find laying around then make a debris hut over it. Who needs tents.

I have never tried that Sam, but thanks for the great idea!
Certainly would soften things up for the weary ol bones.

Pine boughs that are laying around are dead and dead pine boughs are not soft. I have never met anyone who makes a "debris hut" for a camping shelter.

Psssst. klkak...I've been known to do that. I sort of do goofy stuff like build a debris hut to keep my skills honed. Don't do the pine boughs thingy, though. Don't hack up trees unless they mouth off or try to attack me. Generally, that's not a problem.

Q: What would you do if a Giant Sequoia mouthed off to you?

A: Depends on how big he is

I build them for my grandkids to play in. In a survival situation I would build one for myself. But to use one for camping, not me. I can think of a lot better ways to spend a weekend then sleeping in a pile of brush, limbs and leaves. I spend a great deal of time in the bush and I find it much more comfortable and practical to carry a tent or bivy, or water proof tarp for camping.

    Never ceases to amaze me.
You have no idea who I am or what I have done or been through yet will take a simple comment I made and turn it into a lie?
Sure. Ok. I'm a liar. I have never spent one day in the wild and came here to pose. You got me, what can I say. I am very sorry to have taken your time.
    Oh... Lets see here....
    Ummmm...
    What else can I say...
I am really, if you can believe this, a 13 year old crack dealer living in New Orleans that has, ummmm, stole a computer and ummmm, came here to, say, screw with everyone.
    Ok, yeah, that's it....
Anyway you got me I am a liar.
    Feel better?

Zendik - I would probably be upset too if I stated something and was called a liar. Why not take the opportunity to teach. It was clear that some thought your were cutting down pine boughs - you weren't. Somebody else posted about leaving no footprint - doesn't sound like you did. Just a thought.
