"Naked" Joe Knowles, Naked and Afraid reality star...... From 1913

August 4th 1913, Joe Knowles walked into the woods in Maine to prove that modern man could still survive.....as they had to 1000's of years.

Quite a story.....8 weeks naked and afraid......and wrote about it.

One hundred years ago, Joe Knowles stripped down to his jockstrap, said goodbye to civilization, and marched off into the woods to prove his survival skills. He was the reality star of his day. For eight weeks, rapt readers followed his adventures in the Boston Post, for whom he was filing stories on birch bark. When he finally staggered out of the wild, looking like a holdover from the Stone Age, he returned home to a hero’s welcome. That’s when things got interesting.

Largely forgotten, but bring to mind today "survivor experts", and those that run away to the wilderness......

Or not?....seems to be some conversely as to the truthfulness of the whole thing.....read the later pages....seem he may have been a fraud.

Seems that the course holds true be it a modern outdoor survival reality star or one from the past.

Nesmuck abandoned his family and ran off to the woods.

Kephart did the same, had a problem with alcohol for his whole life and died when he wrapped his Tin Lizzy around a tree attempting to navigate a mountain road while drunk.

Before them Jim Bridger was well know as one of the greatest liars of all time.

Davy Crockett had an up and down career path, always going back to the woods when his decisions backfired on him. His final ROTTW landed him in Texas, which did not work out too well for him.

Even Daniel Boone was put on trial for treason.

Do we see a pattern forming?

LOL That's kinda what I was thinking....things haven't changed much.......The truth died with the participants.....as any good tale....

I can't help but think about the fact that Dual Survival has gone through 3 co-hosts due to the lack of honesty of some and the lack of sanity of others.

If Teti is stalking Mike then there truly has to be something wrong with him. I could be accused of stalking Ruth but that's another story.

I'm tellin' ya. Stroud is gonna find Big Foot then they are both gonna be on Naked and Afraid.
