Default Another One for My List

Dragons! Hey, I don't make this stuff up. Carnivorous lizards. That's right Carnivorous...as in they eat meat.....like people. Your laying on the beach enjoying the sun one minute when BAM! half you arm is gone.

The list of awesome exotic animals getting introduced to Florida is getting pretty large. I don't suppose it's worth the ecological harm but it least it's awesome. We just get stuff like eucalyptus and scotch broom and the coolest thing the Nile has given us to my knowledge is an annoying and troublesome virus.

That canal runs directly into Loxahatchee National Wildlife Preserve. It would be nice if they could shut that one down. But, the west coast is already pretty well established.

We had a lot of exotic species as pets growing up. My brother had a Nile Monitor and an Asian Water Monitor. Friends had Savannah Monitors. They are strong animals and they escape weak enclosures. Like snakes they are constantly looking for a way out. That population is small. But, there are other larger populations all over South Florida.

I first saw them in the wild in the late 1980's. I was working in Dania Beach and they had monitors and marine iguanas all over this pond. Under the sidewalks and building foundations you could see dens for them and tegus.

Though if Rick had been monitoring (see the humor) the news in Florida. He would have seen it is also dinosaur season in Florida. LOL Alligator and crocodiles are moving around more in South Florida.

Monitoring.....you slay me! I'll keep an eye on that (get it? monitor...keep an eye on it? I slay you).

I know that somewhere in Florida there is a killer critter that's thinkin'...."if he ever comes to Florida I need to get tarter sauce".

Georgia camp. Romanian immigrant. Great guy. His friends kids are scared of him and call him Dracula. In his distinctive accent he starts yelling in the dark, "THERE'S JUMPING MICE ALL OVER THE PLACE OUT HERE!" It was hilarious.

We used to catch armadillos when we were kids. If they even got there front claws in the entrance to their den we couldn't pull them out. Strong animals.

My brothers and I used to fish with our friends and then sell what we didn't want to eat to the Chinese fish market. Didn't really matter what it was they would buy them. Mainly they liked buying grunts. But, they would by any salt or fresh water creature. I also serviced their signs and we'd go in the back and they would have boxes of live animals. mostly any kind of turtle. But, they would have armadillo as well.

So my brother Sean, when ever someone brings up eating some type of, to them odd, wild meat. He'll let the conversation go on about what all everyone has had and then he says, "Well, you've had armadillo right?". And most often the people have never actually tried "opossum on the half shell" as it is affectionately named by some.

He says, "No, you never ate armadillo? So, then you have never eaten pork fried rice?" They say they have eaten pork fried rice.

Sean tells them the story of the Chinese market and then asks them if they have ever seen or tasted pork that looked or tasted like the "pork" in pork fried rice? No, so then you have eaten armadillo! LOL

Me, I don't ever ask what something is in a Chinese restaurant. If it taste good its all good to me.
