Took the scouts to a favorite spot called White Rock. It is a little known little spot out in the middle of BLM in the West Desert. Of course there were a lot of other people there, so maybe too many people know about it.
We cooked a big troop dinner....Tacos!

We later went on a 4 mile hike through the desert to practice some orienteering. I also practiced working with my gps.

Here is my 5 year old. I probably should have brought my 8 year old. I had to carry the little guy on my shoulders a couple times.

This summer we are going backpacking for the week for scout camp. I need to get the boys prepared!
My older boy (12 yr old) did his own packing. I gave him the list and told him to pack himself. He decided he didn't need to bring anything. I did bring his sleeping bag, but didn't give it to him until right at bed time. Then the next day I made him carry my day pack with all the survival stuff, two water bottles, lunch for the three of us, and the big first aid kit. He said he will remember to bring his own pack next time.
