Does anyone have any experience making moccasins?

I would like to make a pair of moccasins but i don't know exactly how to. Does anybody have a good tutorial or any tips on making moccasins? I sure would appreciate any advice or help.

Made a few pairs.....different styles.
Couple were made for a purchased pattern.....and a couple were made form a home made pattern of shopping bag paper.

ok thanks so most moccasins are made from 3 different pieces. I think i am going to make min a real simple 2 piece. I am going to make the shoe part. And then i am going to put a piece of thicker leather on the bottom for protection.

Eastern woodland moccs are made from one piece of leather. Or the bottoms can be made from one piece and the flaps from scrap.

Being a reenactor for 40 years and keeping the whole family in moccs keeps one in practice.

This is the Creek/Seminole style and was common through the entire eastern US. They are very easy to make and after the first pair os done you will find they only take an hour or so the turn out a pair.

Up north they used a different style with a "vamp" over the toes.

The hard sole moccs you are referring are called shoe packs or legionier moccs, and one can find patterns for those on the internet also.

I settled on the legionier pattern early on as good rugged foot gear. I make the soles from boar hide and the sides from elk, if I can get it, deerhide if I can not.

Since moccs are made to the individual foot he would need access to your feet for proper sizing!

the kits fro Smoke and Fire Company are very close to normal American shoe size that I have encountered. They are also a good deal, having all the materials on needs in a single kit. The leather is also good quality and intended for use as moccs. Most people use leather that is too stiff or too flimsy and never get the full concept of wearing moccs as outdoor gear.

Seriously though, I have not made moccs but have received a couple handmade as gifts. One was all leather and lacked height to accommodate my foot. The other was wool felt with a leather pad on the bottom. I'm wearing the latter right now and my feet are warm for the first time since cold weather started.

Yes they will but the container must be marked as biohazard!

Remember that some folks can not wear traditional moccs due to their foot construction or other problems. In the movie Last of the Mohicans Daniel Day Lewis had problems with properly fitting moccs. The prop people finally covered a pair of Rebock running shoes with leather and let him run the woods in those.

The rest of the cast had normal feet and were equipped with Dyer moccs, Arrow moccs or in the case of the extras, whatever hand made gear they already possessed.

I would have bought many things from the forum..example..one of Crash's knives...its only the shipping problem. By the way, I wear size US 11...B shaped..if that helps.
