i just posted a piece in the general survival thread on the winter of 1880-81
it took darn neer a 1/2hr to do WHERE IS IT. was it a moderator NAZI or what.

With any forum, just because the software is buggy at best, if you end up writing out a long post and notice that you have, copy paste it into a notepad or something. You can bet that just as you hit Post, something will blow up.

Might want to try it again...some time "auto save" still has it saved....on just use the back arrows....

And yeah, it it is deleted or moved, you will receive a PM as to why....or even a warning....

Woof, yeah. I've had a few books vanish like that - exasperating. Like the little girl with the little curl, When computers are good, they're very, very good, but when they are bad, they're horrid.

So, how did they do in the storm? I've heard of, and been in, so many cataclysms, they all sorta blur together.

Unless you accept cookies and check the Remember Me box when you sign in then you have a 10 minute time out window. That's not a bug in the software, it's designed to automatically sign you off. If you take 11 minutes to type out a post then hit enter it will be gone. If you choose not to accept cookies I suggest you type your long post in a word processing software such as Word then copy and paste it into the forum.

This really goes for any forum, not just this one.....
If you are going to write a long post........write it in word first, or any other word processing program. Then, when you are finished, copy and paste it into notepad, and then copy and paste that onto the forum. No, you don't HAVE to do it this way, but you will get better results if you do. Here are the reasons why:

1. Word processing programs have better spelling and grammar checks. They aren't perfect, but they will catch a lot more than your browser will. Although we can all let slide the occasional grammar/spelling mistake, a lot of them really takes away from the thoughts you are trying to convey.

2. It gives you more time to really think about what you are saying. You should read it over a couple times to make sure you are not missing something, and that your thoughts follow an easy to understand format.

3. It helps prevent loss of effort. If you spent 1/2 hour typing.....you are less likely to lose all that.

4. When you copy and paste into notepad first, it "cleans" up any formatting issues that might occur.
