    Default New SCAR 17 & G23

Lost the majority of my firearms. I decided I didn't want to make the same mistake I did before, and buy a bunch of guns that work eh, ok, with a little ammo for each. I wanted to buy "the" one combat rifle, and become proficient with it. The same with the handgun. Instead of a buying a few cool toys, spend the money on ammo for the main weapon. After much research I decided on a SCAR 17s and a Glock 23.

I decided on the G23 gen 4 because I wanted versatility and reliability. In seconds I can swap from .40, to 9mm. I can even use the same magazines at the price of some reliability. If I so choose I can also buy barrels to swap out for .357, and .22, although the .22 requires a new spring. So far I love it. It eats what I tell it to eat. And it's just the in between size to concealed carry, but not be a tiny little thing I can't hit the broad side of a barn with.

I decided on the SCAR 17s because I am not a fan of the stopping power of 5.56. I wanted something to ensure my target is going down, as well as being able to use it to hunt with. Once again, one rifle, to do as much as possible, rather than a bunch each with it's own task. It combines an adjustable stock, as well as the option of folding. The recoil is incredible. One of the reasons I was drawn to it. Some fancy muzzle break FNH designed. It feels like i'm shooting a caliber slightly less than a 5.56. Shooting one handed is not an issue in the least bit. I can see why this has been phased in to some special military units, especially when it fires burst/FA. It breaks down just as easy, if not easier than an AR/M4. Although I haven't put a large amount of rounds through it, it also eats what I tell it to. Seen people shoot thousands of rounds without malfunctions. So much they have to buy snap caps to simulate malfunctions for practice. It has an effective range of fire to 700M on a point target. Chews through cinder blocks and gets into those harder to reach places 5.56 simply wont go.

The start of the ammo supply. So far at over 1,300 rounds of 7.62, 500 rounds of .40, and 500 rounds of 9mm. Not sure on .22, maybe 500-1000

If I lived in a free state I would add a Ps90 SBR and FiveseveN combo. I still may end up getting a CA compliant 5-7 down the line when the timing and money is right. Can't beat the stopping power of a rifle cartridge for an EDC CCW weapon.

As much discontent as I have for the AR/M4 platform, I think I would go with that over a SCAR 16, sheerly based on the price.

That's just too expensive of a rifle for me. I'm glad you like it and it performs well for you, however.

    Expensive? Yes. Overpriced? Yes..haha..

I looked at it in the sense as I won't need a deer rifle, a CQB combat rifle, a medium-long range rifle, a range rifle etc.

So in that sense the price wasn't too bad.

If you don't need a deer rifle, CQB rifle, medium-long range rifle, or a range toy....

Then why did you spend all that money on something with no apparent use except to provide a "wow factor"?
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

I did need those. That was the point. Replace all those with one. It has the uses of all them. Nothing to do with a wow factor besides doing what I wanted it to do.

Thanks! Honestly hated the way it looked at first. Looked ugly to me, but fit my desires so I bought it. Now it's grown on me.

The money hurt, but I don't regret it. As long as it does what I want and made it so I didn't need to buy other rifles, i'm fine with that. I can't shoot out to 700M anyway.

Can't wait to head down to Arizona to get some practice in without all the CA compliant bs on it.

Am I the only one that buys stuff just because I want it and it's cool? It's only money! It's not like I can take it with me when I die. Prime example for me is my HK USC carbine .45 ACP. It's got an ungainly 16" barrel, a trigger like a $10 staple gun and is limited to 10 round mags. It can accommodate four rail sections but ships with none, all of them cost extra. Oh, and it cost $1700. So WTF, right? Well, it's just unbelievably fun to shoot and will be sooooo sweet once I drop another $1500 into the UMP conversion!

The SCAR is in the same boat. I don't know if I'll have one; right now I'm leaning towards getting a Daniel Defense DDM4V11. But I set aside a certain amount for "toys" so why not?

Nope. I would imagine most if not all of us spend money because we want something as opposed to needing it. But all of us have a ceiling that we simply can't justify. I'm sure you've looked at a number of items and said, "no thanks", because the price was too high. If it was right for him then I'm glad for him. Certainly didn't intend to come across as chastising him for the purchase. It's his money to do with as he pleases and he's apparently happy with it. That's a good thing. It's just too expensive for me for what it is. But then, I"m a died in the wool cheapskate so........Do you know how many Mosin Nagents a guy can buy for that kind of money? I could almost defend Stalingrad again.

    Hahaha.

No. Like Rick said I think most of us do it. Some are just better at restraining than others. Although this is was a pricey buy I have no desire to go buy those fun toys now, and would rather spend the money on building up some food and other stuff for emergencies. Rifle is set, minus the ACOG, but I don't need that at the moment.

I had a Mosin Nagant, and others. I wanted to avoid all that again. Mosin Nagant is great for the price, but is still a full sized bolt action rifle with not many options with putting more money into it.

I have gotten to the point in my life where need very rarely dictates what I want........and the funny part is I find that when you can afford it (whatever)...sometimes you don't want it as much as when you couldn't.

Those are all really cool rifles, carbines, handguns...lots of cool accessories....and I couldn't tell you what was what...they don't interest me all that much.

I have spent more money on custom made rifles and muskets than EBR's...but that is me.

Your thinking of one gun for everything, and not needing any others, is a sound reasoning......if it works for you and make you happy....go for it and congratulations.

Everyone has there own taste. If I found a more traditional rifle that offered everything I was after I would have went after that. I don't need all the fancy accessory stuff I see people putting on. Stock rifle and acog. Lots of ammo.

A lot of people hate the scar trigger and spend over $350 on a Geisselle. I have no problem with the stock one stage trigger.
