Default Being stuck in a forest fire

Boy that would suck. Going camping and then one morning you wake up and all you see is smoke and fire and you're trapped. Where I live they have big forest fires every couple of years. 2003 and 2007 was pretty bad. Last year in San Diego, CA there was one that burned like 300,000 acres.

Working forest fires kind of sucks too. I did it two summers in a row when I was a youngster and my hat's off to the guys and gals that do it full-time.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

We live out in the middle of no where last summer we had several around us. The wind kept pushed them away from us if it had been blowing the other way it could have been bad.

Back in '87 almost all of the towns and reserves in north-central Manitoba had to evacuate. I got to be part of that, wasn't a lot of fun.

In '97 North Florida had some pretty bad fires. Smoke and ash for about 3 weeks. Near my home was OK and near my office (68 miles away) was OK. One night while going home I-10 and I-95 were shut down along with most other roads. Three days before I could get back home.

Its that time of year for fires here in Alaska. I dont know for a fact but I would guess close to a million acres burn here every summer. They dont even think about fighting fires up here unless they threaten homes or villiges. Just let them burn.
    1. If it's in your kit and you don't know how to use it....It's useless.
    2. If you can't reach your kit when you need it....Its useless.

That's sort of the natural order, isn't it? The feds are finally figuring that out. No fire means thicker underbrush and super fires like we've seen over the last ten years or so. We sort of mess everything up. I mean, who'd of thought you can mess up a fire?

Nature took care of brush before it became a hazard, now it's popular to hug a tree. When I was a kid we had small fires usually every year in E. KY, kept the brush down. I have fought a few fires when the warden caught us during the summer, kind of a draft at $.50 an hour. I don't envy anyone who does this all the time and I do admire their courage & hard work. Same with anything, try and improve on nature, import animals, plants, insects etc. and screw up the works.
