    Default Indian Joe Hat

I've had this brown Stetson for while but it didn't fit the best, been going to stretch it but instead made a indian joe hat from it. I ripped the band off and the sweat band out. Then using liberal amounts of hot water poured through the dome to flush the stiffener from it and reform the hat into a dome rather than the typical 'cowboy" hat dent. Now I'll braid up a hat band rom braintan buckskin, add a feather and it's all set. I may spray it down with spray starch. It fits now too.
so the definition of a criminal is someone who breaks the law and you want me to believe that somehow more laws make less criminals?

Found a brown Stetson here a while back (never leave a Stetson for under $10 bucks behind).....just a tad too small.....has no outer band.
Been looking for a "hat stretcher" to try to do as you just suggested.....but with steam....
    Cool project .

Stretchers.....pic's....Been looking when out and about.....

yup, that's a indian joe hat LOL, nice looking hat. I reckon a fella could use boiling water around the head band of the hat and then after it's good and soft, put the hat on and wear it until it dries. Pull it down tight so it dries oversize.

These hats are sold as blanks at Rondy.........then are decorated and desecrated (lol) over the years.

I have a card out in the truck from a leather making guy that I 've talked to at gun shows that makes hat bands the have shell loops for rifle and pistol shells .....like 45/70 and .45 colt or what ever.....when I get my project done, I'm gonna have him make me one.

I tried putting a wet hat on my head to stretch it. Unfortunately, it shrank too tight. My eyes bulged and I can't get it off.

I like the Indian Jones style hat, can someone tell me what hat is that? It looks nice and gives you a lot of shade, but its not a cowboy hat.

Hatters normally use steam to form a hat. It dries very quickly and you do not have to get your head squeezed trying to dry it out! A steam iron normally works well!

Here's a couple photos. The band is made from three plait braintan buckskin, the feather is a turkey feather found in the woods.

I like the picture of the hat sitting on the stove. Cool looking place.

I have the Scala Tracker Wool Outback Hat and it was supposed to maintain its shape and be crush-able. I like that if you are going fast the rim just folds back. I have a Scala Weathered Cotton Outback Hat. Both are good hats. But, if I had to grab one for me I would grab the weathered cotton.
