Default First try cammo painting and first time painting cordura

I decided to paint my [bright, obnoxious red] pack to a less obtrusive state, but I needed practice first so I've started with a black cordura camera bag. It went acceptably, especially for a first try. This little bag took way more than half a can of khaki though, so I'll have to get more. Here is the result of my practice run:

I used Rustoleum cammo and I can confirm they do get very spattery past the halfway point. I'll probably try the Krylon when these run out. Both are said to bake on well for suitable items for much better wear durability.

I apologize but my only acceptable camera at the moment needs a new battery.

I used wisteria leaves and grass for stencils. I think next time I will let them wilt a bit before starting, so they lay flatter against the gear being painted. I also think tomorrow I'll come back again with more shadow to break up all the edges in several places. They still stick out like a sore thumb.

    Looks like ATACS FG.

I paint alot of ****. You can get sweet deals on black gear that nobody wants.

Of note, krylon is black under IR lit NVD observation.

L-R these were black, grey, and UCP (grey army cammo)

I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

I don't expect I'll ever be evading IR night vision, but I'll file that under you never know.

Nice job , both of you.....I guess I hadn't thought about cameo on material.
Have done boats, bags, blinds, coolers, shotguns thermos bottles and even burlap for blinds.

Bought a can of "Dull Dead Grass" alum. boat paint....
Girl at the counter says..."What is this?"
I said, "It for cameo on my canoe."
She said, "Oh I was wondering why anyone would want that color".

I would have said "It's for when you want to touch up your lawn, but you want it to look believable in drought season".

Way back when....while duck hunting we would bring the Igloo coolers with "supplies"....and always thought that "Why don't the manufactures cameo a cooler?"

Here we are in a cameo canoe or boat, cameo clothes, guns and even dog vest....What not a cooler?

So, I wrote a letter, back then that's what you did...and ask why not a cameo cooler?....And while that were at it how about a seat?
They said, that their marketing research, said they didn't have a market.... They lied to me.

Year or so later there were all sorts of seat/coolers/cameo available....from a lot of people...never even said thank you.

Oh well....still ya done a good job.

As long as I'm short on khaki and can't do the day-pack yet, I'm open to suggestions for the rest of the can. I already did my jpk, and I have it in a hot box to see how well this stuff thermo-sets. It should turn out harder than not curing it, at least.

Hunter: That is what I did also. I gave a good base coat in slow increments with the khaki (though I did accidentally saturate in some of the high spots) and then did the grass/foliage stencils in alternating green (army green) and shadow (deep forest green, which is quite gray, not too dark), then went over with the shadow to break up edges. Next time, I think I use hard-edged stencils for the breakup also.

Ohhh noooos, not you too. You have just fallen down the rabbit hole. There is no coming back. First, it is a bag, then comes everything else you have. Eventually your wife will get mad at you for camo painting the computer tower. Don't ask me how I know that.

    Great job, BTW!

Used to walk into a saloon during hunting season.....see everyone with Mis-Matched Cameo......makes ya want to tell everyone to strip throw everything in a big pile and start over....

You....take the woodland break-op,....You... get the 70's 'Nam field gear (always one in the crowd)....You...get the marsh grass late season....You...Mountain tree line.....

Now, I just order a beer and don't worry about it......

She would be in the opposite direction of where the frying pan came flying from.

Man....do I have a good story to tell that relates to this one.
But, lets just say that I always look and see if there is anything near my wife that she might throw before opening the ol' mouth of mine.

I imagine that this practice started after the swelling went down and your vision started to return?
