    Default Rude awakening this morning

At 5 am, I woke up to the what sounded like a 22 rifle being shot like right outside the house if not closer. I sat lay there for a second thinking that the maybe the dag had been barking abd the BF had gotten up to dispatch a coon or possum that was attempting to get tot he dogs food.

However I heard him breathing next to me, and I asked him if he had heard it, his reply was yea, but I thought I was dreaming it, lets lay here and see if we hear it again. I replied that I could not just lay there if someone was shooting outside the house, so we got up, and I turned to pick up my little Walther that I keep by the bedside and noticed that the back to the battery case of the laser light was laying on the floor, and the batteries were on the tabletop , one of them in about 5 pieces!

Yep, the sound I heard was one of the batteries exploding inside the laser on the gun! Startled me, and since it is one of those little watch type batteries, one has to wonder what would happen if that was to happen inside a watch on someone wrist!

Wow, never heard of that before. Lucky it happened when it did or it could have done you a mischief.
Oh and what's this 5am you speak of? Is it another of those American things? I don't think we have it over here.

You should ask Boeing what they think of Lithium Ion batteries.

It was interesting that you touched on a true-ism.

One shot at O-dark thirty, generally goes into the "What was that?...was I dreaming?...A shot?....Maybe a back fire?....I'll just lay here and wait to see what happens".......

    Every midnight hunter know this......

    Now exploding batteries....THAT is freaky.

It was laying on my night table, the light was not on, the batteries were replaced in it when I bought it from my daughter in law a few months ago.I have only turned it on a couple of times since replacing them,

So what are you going to do with the batteries and light?
We have a recycling center that takes household batteries. Thought about contacting duracell, but not sure what good that will do?

Take pictures and contact them. It the battery mishap caused any damage maybe they'll replace it.

There's a few stories online about batteries exploding. For various reasons.

Are you sure you had the same battery number on all the batteries in the stack? My red dot takes a single coin battery but I can never remember if it is a 2032 or a 2025. Same diameter. Easy to mix up if just going by size. The 2032 is 0.7mm thicker.

You should absolutely get pictures to duracell...if there was a defect, they might need to do a recall or somesuch

This is the first time I heard about something like this. I'm glad nobody got hurt. Like what the others are saying here, you should report this case to Duracell. They probably have an idea of why it happened.

I have never been a fan of lasers or lights on firearms, but never for this reason. I have heard of batteries exploding (only seen two) but the causes were always a short on the battery, either externally caused by corrosion or bad wires, or internally caused by a defect in the battery.
