It's one thing to tell folks that's not for me or to even state that you don't think it's reliable but to insist post after post that your way is the only way hints that your experience may be more from reading that from doing. So far, you've been wrong a lot, which numerous folks have pointed out, but that doesn't slow you down. If you've been banned from multiple forums perhaps it's time to consider the problem may rest with you rather than the "collective culture".

Certainly not everyone and every forum are a good fit.
But if you were to go back and analyze my wording, you'd see that I'm not proclaiming myself right and others wrong, or saying my belief is the end all be all. In fact, YOU guys are the one INSISTING that I'm WRONG. Don't you see the irony and hypocrisy there?

Perhaps it's the fact that I put up a good case for my argument and defend it so it then becomes threatening to the opinions held by others. I've debated about religion before, for example. All I do is reveal scientific information. Then I'm rebutted with similar arguments to those we've seen here, accusing me of insisting that I am right. Even going as far as lashing out at me and calling me names, when I had done nothing but provide unbiased information. The reason this happens is that the ideas I am exposing people to are simply not what they want to hear.

Don't get me wrong, I'll probably turn around and tell some mall ninja that he's wrong about something and become a hypocrite myself. Hypocrisy is hard to avoid for anyone. But honesty is the key to moving past all of that and keeping things in proper perspective.

No, but your insistence that you see no need for it, when others have repeatedly acknowledged that they understand YOU see no need for it, is getting a bit old.

Yea, but it's kind of like me acknowledging your stance while telling you that I maintain my own. Then you reply that I shouldn't be maintaining it because it's wrong. In fact, nobody should be told they are wrong, when it is more effective to state the reason why what they are saying does not hold water. As far as that char cloth debacle, nobody ever stated why it is advantageous to carry it above other superior items. Yet I was still told repeatedly how wrong I was. Those are the types of things I'm talking about.

If one person tells you that you are wrong you're free to ignore them.
If two people tell you that you are wrong you might want to pause and think.
If three or more tell you that you are wrong you just might be wrong.

Somehow I get the impression if the sign said 30 miles to Denver and you were on your way to Chicago from Tulsa you'd believe the sign was wrong. Just sayin'......

Telling somebody that they're wrong is NOT hypocrisy...telling them that they are wrong and doing it yourself IS! Besides, hypocrisy is a human trait that we all share....I'm 67 years old and know a lot about the outdoors, both here in the mid-west as well as Colorado. However, even though Crash is younger than me, even though Rick is younger, broader, and looks better in a hong than I do, I still listen to them and have learned even more. If one of them tells me I'm wrong I may not like it, but then I settle down and try to figure out why they feel that way...it's called "learning."....

I was told once that I was wrong just to find out I was only mistaken. Well OK maybe more than once.
so the definition of a criminal is someone who breaks the law and you want me to believe that somehow more laws make less criminals?

Let's look at this using your own posts. First off - the thread was about how one individual (who is no longer here to respond to any of us) makes char cloth. In your first post in that now ever so famous thread you said
The problem with char cloth is that it is not tinder.
Which is, as you now realize I hope, wrong. You then went on to offer an alternative.
Why not just keep cotton and your sparking device on hand? A char tin full of cotton will last just as long, only you won't need dry tinder either, you can light sticks directly with the cotton.
Nothing wrong with that, and probably is what a lot of people do. Then you veered off into advice for others
It's definitely not something you should carry out in the field to get your FIRST fire started.
Which makes very little sense. First fire - third fire - what does it matter? You then veered into
They consider paper tinder too. It's also very difficult, if not impossible, to bring to a flame from a spark.
I suppose this was an effort to reinforce YOUR idea of what is considered less than adequate tinder. A lot will depend on your ignition source. Talking strictly sparks - paper can work very well when properly prepared. So here it seems as though you are talking about something you read or saw in a vid, but have little practical experience with. Not trying to sound harsh, but paper does work - you just haven't done it yet, but your statement seems to be a definitive one. I don't understand your statement
I guess what I'm trying to get across is that char cloth is better served when used as a means to get future fires going once in the field. Not as something to start out with it.
If it's not good for the first fire, why would it be good for future fires?
But it's not like you'll ever stumble upon flint in the wild and happen to have charcloth and a piece of steel on you. That's a completely unrealistic scenario.
I would venture a guess that quite a few people here do exactly that. Without guessing, I personally know that several do.
First of all, fire making is a much ado about nothing situation.
If you truly believe that, you are not prepared. Oh well, it was just a bit of a mental exercise for me to go back and read your postings. Take what others have to say to heart, or not - your choice.

Ahem...(adjusts tie).....Glad you asked. Some folks on here, I won't name names, have stated quite forcefully that the use of the word "thong" shall never be used on the forum. Since I can't use the word "thong" (thank you B for your admonishments) I'm forced to used the word "hong". Technically, still staying within the bounds of Miss B's law. I just happen to have a picture somewhere around here...thousand words and all....let me see if I can find it..........
