I've taken two National Weather Service storm spotter classes. They tell you some things to look for that may indicate approaching storms, but I'm still not good at it. I used to teach earth science to high schoolers, as well as biology, and a lot of weather stuff got fixed into my head doing that. I even bought a Kestrel 4000 thingamudoogy that gives wind speed, temp, humidty, baro pressure, etc etc. It was mostly a cool way to blow $200, and, yes, it floats. You can also go to http://www.weathermatrix.net and click on the area that says education and get a lot of info.
