    Default Need a new vehicle

Need a new vehicle ASAP. Not a car dude. Need a commuter to get me to work and also me and my kayaks to the ocean. Looking at this but I have two issues.

    1. I asked how many owners he said 1, then said well I got it in a trade and just want to make some money.

    2. 180k miles?? I get weary of a vehicle after 100k. Is 180k ok if it's in good shape? What can I expect out of it? I don't want to buy it and have it only make it 10k.

It's pretty cheap. I see a dealer selling the exact one for over 7k and KBB values it around 6k.

    Thanks.

Get a car facts report on it.

If you are not well versed, spend the $$$ to have a good mechanic to go over it. Worth it IMO.

Vehicle looks fine and the price seems OK, but looks will only get you so far..........where have I heard that before?

Someone I know bought one of a similar year. There are a few things to be aware of: Even though Infinity is made by Nissan, don't expect many parts to be interchangeable. He has needed a few parts which turned out to be much more expensive than he expected. Some of them aren't stocked in most auto parts stores, and needed to be shipped from a parts warehouse. He had a somewhat more involved repair (he purchased it knowing it needed a bit of work), and the parts had to be shipped from Japan -- no options. I don't remember exactly what the repairs were. It was about two years ago.

Go to the library and get the April edition of Consumer Reports. The April issue is the annual vehicle issue. It will list all the best used vehicles, the worst used vehicles and what you can expect to pay for them. They will also note any things to look for even on the good used vehicles.

My 1999 Honda CRV has 293000 miles on it and I expect at least another 100000 miles out of it. But I would be very careful buying anything from Craigslist !

That's what I was thinking.....or if you do buy one do the transaction at your local police station's parking lot.....and let them know.

I can't help you on the choice....haven't bought a car since 2000 and that was new........I drive trucks, and mostly Fords, but do listen to deals, and Consumer Reports.

Not sure how accurate Car Facts would be, or how much money.....lots of stuff doesn't get reported, just major stuff......To me that's a scam.

I work in auto service and I assure you carfax isn't always accurate. We find repaired damage to vehicles all the time on ones with clean reports !

I don't know why anyone would report anything unless they "had to".........?
Really can't say, but I wouldn't trust anyone except my own "guy" to look it over and give me a repost.

I buy new and keep vehicles a long time, and keep them up....works for me.

    ^THIS^

I personally witnessed a dealer change the mileage on a carfax report to a lower mileage. Just took 2 minutes.

I added more to the above post but it's not there now?

The carfax will only show information about services to a vehicle if a dealership is involved in the servicing. Also perhaps in the police and insurance are involved in a claim (wreck).

Looking at this one now. What a PITA. I typed in 5k$ limit in the entire SF bay area and sac and i've only found like 3 with under 150k miles.

I am not worried about Craigslist at all. I've bought a lot from there and only ever had one slight incident. Nothing ever happened but the guy kept changing locations and finally never showed. Then again he did sound like a stoner, could have gotten lost from the devils grass haha.

I have a Mitsubishi Pajero running with 230,000km. Still driving it. Never had any problems with it. Its auto transmission, with a auto hub (for 4WD) fuel injection and petrol powered. Dunno if 230,000 kilometers qualifies to your question.
