According to Rick there not in Indiana

the ruger GSR will work fine for someone that size. Its a bolt rifle with detachable magazine in .308 caliber. You can get the .308 in smaller bullet weights to lower the recoil and it has an adjustable stock so you can shorten it by 4" (maybe more, I dont remember exactly) at will.

    6.8 special.

I must say that I've thought the 300 blackout would be a pretty good performer, and I have seen not a few others agree.

The .243 is illegal for rifle in Indiana for deer. You can use it in a handgun but not a rifle. You can use a rifle on deer using handgun cartridges. That seems weird to me, rifle cartridge in handgun and handgun cartridge in rifle but that's how it is.

Now that is just weird. Where I'm from the .243 is the minimum caliber for deer, and many people use tha caliber because of light recoil! Wonders never cease!

Wildthing, your avatar says you are in OHIO, which has been a shotgun only state until just this spring when they approved straight walled pistol cartridges, just like Indiana.

To my knowledge no bottle neck centerfire rifle rounds have ever been allowed use in Ohio. they have always claimed it as a safety factor.

I have handled and fired both the Kel-Tec sub 2000 and the TNW Aero, both are extremely compact. They both fire a couple different pistol calibers, such as 9mm, 40 S&W and I think .45. They use common pistol mags and are easily taken down (the sub 2k folds neatly in half). The Hi-Point Carbine seems to be fairly reliable, I would buy one of those looong before I purchased one of their pistols. Find a used Ruger .44 mag Deerfield carbine and your set, not high capacity but plenty of power. The new Taurus CT series carbine looks cool, but may be more spendy. Those are all pistol caliber options. In rifles I would say a Mini-14 is a safe bet, or just pick up an AR. I see a lot of comments on your local hunting regs, I live in Alaska so I dont know what those laws might be, so I stuck to answering the original question.
There ain't too many problems you can't fix with $500 or a 30-06.

Only been here 5 years, I grew up in Oklahoma! That is where I'm from. All of my deer hunting happens in Oklahoma and Texas, and I refuse to use a shotgun for deer, I like to reach out and touch them!
I'm sure you will disagree with that theory too but I just like to hunt with rifles, that's it!

After seeing the "hong" picture, svelte wasn't what came to mind, nor was elf like.

Hey, it's my autobiography. I'm allowed a little poetic license. Now, if one of you will just fix my Netflix on Comcast I'll be happy.

She's the same size as my 12 year old sister...I find that absolutely hilarious and I don't let her forget it!

She finds a lot of her clothes in the kid section...

I will forward that one on.
