Unknown 22 caliber bullets

A friend of mine gave me a fruit jar full of .22 ammo than came from an old farm house in Iowa. There was .22LR, .22 bird shot,
and another .22 I can't identify.

Went to the shooting range today to shoot up some of the free ammo I acquired. In the batch of ammo is a shell that looks like a
.22 LR or .22 long.. The shell casings seem to have a band or ring formed on them. They do not fit into a .22 firing chamber. I tried a .22 revolver and a Taurus automatic. The bullet enters the firing chamber but not the shell casing. They have a "U" stamped on the shell.

An old timer at the shooting range said the bullets were for a Remington semi-auto rifle made back in 1901.

My question is, are these bullets valuable and how can I find them a new home?

I think the U was from the Union metallic cartridge company, but i could be wrong. if there a lot longer than the others they may be old 22 mag shells they are longer and wider than a 22 lr, but again just guessing

The round in the center of the circle is a new .22 LR. The shell with the ring on the shell casing is about .050" OAL shorter than the new LR. The new LR shell is .223" in diameter and the slug itself is .221". The shell with the ring is .243" in diameter and the slug itself is .222".

The slug is probably .22 cal but the shell casing is .020" oversize from the Long Rifle.

Might be a .22 WRF ........case the same diameter as .22 mag just not as long.

I'm thinking that the "U" is head stamp for UMC ammo .....Union Metallic Cartridge

The Winchester round is 1.180 OAL. The round I have is .932" OAL. Other than over all length they are the same dimensions.

The .22 Remington Automatic (also known as the .22 Remington Auto and occasionally .22 Rem Auto) is a .22 in (5.6mm) American rimfire rifle cartridge.

Introduced for the Remington Model 16 semiautomatic rifle in 1916,[1] the .22 Rem Auto was never used in any other firearm.[2] It will not chamber correctly in other .22 rimfire weapons, nor will other .22 rimfire ammunition, including the very dimensionally-similar .22 Winchester Automatic,[3] interchange with it.[2] This feature was to prevent use of black powder rounds, which were still popular when it first appeared, from being used in the Model 16, resulting in powder residue rapidly clogging the action and rendering the weapon inoperable.[4]

How do I find a home for these bullets? Jim

Take them to a show...there are guys that sell and trade odd stuff.......I just trade for some thing I can use......
OR find a Remington Model 16 to shoot them up...or an owner of a Model 16......
