I was reading this survival book yesterday and was reading a good story in it. Around 1944 these Japanese soldiers hid from the Americans on the island on Guam with nothing but there guns and clothes. A few hid for 20 to 30 years. They would find a cave deep in the jungle and survive off of snails, coconuts, rats. Because of the tropical weather there (a range of 68 to 90 degrees) they never in danger of freezing to death. A few did die of malaria though. The most famous soldiers who hid were these two - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoichi_Yokoi and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroo_Onoda.
Heres an article on them http://www.primitiveways.com/jungle_30_years.html
