You can be certain that the government can do it - and more - here.

You guys. I'm waiting for the palm implant so I can "talk to the hand". I'm sure in time they will miniaturize it even more so only a single finger can be raised to communicate to someone. Wouldn't that be something!

Kinda off topic but when I saw this before, I realized this is how the govt is going to go after guns, if this is a felony that's how people who don't agree with them will be restricted from having guns. Perfect way to kill 2 birds with one stone!

You guys are missing the fact that these kinds of tactics have been used since the October Revolution in 1917. It has been going on in Russia for nearly 100 years.

No, but they did have secret police that spied on folks. They didn't text you back then they just showed up and shot you.

And yes, the government serves us pretty well. I'm protected by the finest military in the world hands down. Countless lives have been saved by our Coast Guard. Customs and Boarder patrol does an amazing job even if they are overwhelmed and understaffed. The Department of the Interior has some amazing national parks to enjoy. The Social Security Administration keeps sending out checks every month. I may get to draw one yet. Job Corps has trained a lot of young adults. That's the kind of stuff you mean, right?

Not at all. I'm not happy with everything our government does. But, on the balance, we live a pretty cushy and safe life. Politics is hosed as is our financial house and our NSA. But you get what you allow and sometimes what you ask for.

Everyone wears their little electronic leash (aka cell phone) 24/7 with little regard to the downsides of it.

Ukraine is not exactly a bastion of democracy so I'm not gonna be compelled by "if it can happen there, it can happen here" story. Frankly, I am not surprised when ANYthing happens in countries like that. Not OK, not excusing it, but if it happened in the UK or Switzerland I might pay a little more attention.

Simple solution is "don't use cellphones" ! I've done without them for many years and still doing without one. I do have a prepaid Tracfone, but I only use it in emergencies and I don't have cellphone coverage where I live anyway, so why pay a big cellphone bill when it does me no good. I have a landline phone at home but only use it in emergencies too. But if you do use cellphones, be very careful what you say on them - loose lips sinks ships !
