These boxes have tough plastic bags with a screw on cap inside that hold the soda syrup. Once empty, the bags can be cleaned out and utilized for water storage. Hot water and soap seem to work fine. I have three 5 gallon and three 2.5 gallon bags all in their boxes stacked atop each other neatly, and full of water.
I get them from the local movie theater. I can't think of many restaurants, gas stations, bars, bowling alleys or even skating rinks that don't use them. Most are 5 gallon and 2.5 gallon. One drawback, the bags were designed to work on a vacuum sealed line, so a hole must be punched in the hard plastic 'valve' at the mouth of the bag to make usable. You don't have to punch a hole, if you can acquire the proper attachment that releases the built in valve.
If you punch a hole, it's crucial to make sure the cap for each bag is saved, or you can't seal it. I made one shutoff valve that screws onto each bag, which turns the box into an instant water dispenser. A similar valve could be made but at the end of a 2 or 3ft hose, turning one of the 2.5 gallon bags into a portable camelbak, when removed from the box. The boxes are quick to throw in the trunk or a truck toolbox.
