There are two ways you can approach this at the same time.

1. Talk to your doctor and let them know you are concerned that if some weather related event happens at the end of the Rx period it could be a week of so before scripts could be caught up and you'd like to avoid that. They should be okay with that unless it's narcotics and you're asking for a refill every 3rd day.

2. When it's close to refill time call in the script a day or two early. Take the extra 1 or 2 pills and put them back. Next month same thing and rotate your meds from last month. It only takes a few months to start having some backup meds available. This will be governed to some extend by your pharmacy insurance and how many days ahead they will allow you to refill. Find out and take advantage of it. If it's out of pocket then you should be able to refill 3 or 4 days ahead will no problems.

As B said - if you have a good relationship - just ask. Tell em what for and that you will give him/her the unused scripts when they expire so that they can be refilled. If you ever do have to use them be sure to let your doc know so that he/she will know that you are being straight up with them.

Talked with my Doc today. He was fine with it. Told me to give him a list of the meds/scripts and he would be glad to write them. He did caution me that I might have to pay out of my pocket because Tri-Care Prime is pretty picky about paying for refills too soon.

I'm glad you have a responsible and reasonable PCP. The good news is most generics are pretty cheap right now even out of pocket. If you have to pay out of pocket for any expensive drugs then ask the pharmacy if you can fill a portion of it. They will keep the script on file. You can refill a third of it per payday or something like that and lessen the blow of an expensive drug. If it's out of pocket your Rx insurance won't have a say about how you fill it.
