Default A genius idea--phone to end all phones.

About damn time if they can pull it off. It's what I've been waiting for, like, forever.
It'll blow your mind because of it's simplicity and user friendliness/customization. I want it NOW!

I'll take you a bit further with that. There is no reason the phone can't determine which block is the problem and eliminate that component long enough for you to get to the block store. We have many offices that were sealed and no one entered them. The office monitored itself, made it's own repairs and then printed out which components were bad so a tech could change out the bad parts if someone ever went inside. I know of offices that ran for 3-4 years and never had a human inside. No reason that phone can't do the same thing.

If you get one you'll be known as a block head, you know that right?

I agree. The whole premise for repair vs. throw away is the loaded labor rate involved. Back in the day we repaired phones and even then our loaded labor rate was something like $42-$43 an hour. It became much cheaper to just change out the phone. That's true on most things today. It's just a matter of cost.

However, if you bring the phone to a central point and just change the module then you've changed those dynamics back and as long as it's cost effective to swap blocks then it should successful.

I will wait in line for a simple one like that.......been putting off changing our 5 year old flip phones as we don't need or want any of the "apps" and BS on a 6 mo. life expectancy iPhone.....

I've been over and over this, but It's not going to work. It's simply not particularly feasible from an EE standpoint.

Verizon Wireless has a new plan. You exchange your phone for new one every six months. What a waste!

I try to keep it in perspective; Even if I lost service on my phone, I'd 20X the computer as my first PC, and will always be a rather capable computer something.

On that note, and especially given the huge numbers of ARM phones in production, I see a generation or two of poor and impoverished aspiring techies growing up with these devices [current smart-phones, not these modular daydreams] as cheap, second hand gear with which to learn computing and programming.

Not this one. Maybe on a similar idea, but not on this one.

I am not tech savvy, just gut feeling savvy. I like the idea behind this phone, however it's executed. I think there would be a huge market for it precisely because it's modular and it looks cool too.

....And to think that some one was actually trying to sell us bottled water....what a joke.......LOL

Never say never.....I like the idea as well, and yeah, maybe not this one....but the idea.

The whole idea of being "connected" 24/7, in what ever media...that is massively being promoted, has showed us how wasteful, and self indulged we have become......
