+1. It seems that rescuers were attempting to get everybody off of the mountain due to weather conditions, not because the hikers/climbers had signaled for help.

Years ago my roommate and I went on a camping trip to Upper Lena Lake http://www.nps.gov/olym/planyourvisi...lake-trail.htm It was early October. Our last night there it snowed a couple of feet. We were prepared for it, and it was a wonderful trip. On our way down the mountain, and a bout a mile from the trail head we encountered two rangers who asked if we were ******. We said yes - and continued back to the parking area. They said that the only information they had was our names on the trail head log book and not what our experience level, or equipment was. They said that very few venture there in October and that they were coming to recover the bodies.

We went again the following month.
