Default Court Orders U.S. Government to Declassify Rulings - Credits Edward Snowden

I'll say it again: Snowden is a national hero.

"The secretive court that authorizes NSA surveillance of phone call data ordered the government to declassify rulings justifying the practice — and gave credit to Edward Snowden for forcing its hand."

Yeah, it would seem so at first. But then the attention was too addictive and he couldn't keep his trap shut. Started revealing info that would only hurt national interests and help the enemy.
You want a national hero, look no further than this:

I wouldn't trade one of these puppies for that looser. Let him rot in Russia for all I care.

I believe he opened his trap all at once and now it is the Guardian/Washington Post deciding when to release what.
I'm not sure I've seen anything yet that would compromise security other than to really piss off our allies. And it's already hurting the security businesses that once guaranteed internet security - and to some extent those that have been specifically named as co-conspirators with the NSA like Google, Microsoft and Verizon.
Most of what's been revealed was suspected but not prove-able.

9-11 happened supposedly without this surveillance. The Boston Marathon bombing did happen even with this surveillance.
I'm not ready to give up civil rights to secret courts for the illusion of "safety." Or to the idea of having armored thugs doing warrantless searches of whole neighborhoods for a single wanted criminal. It's simply amazing that 2nd part didn't turn out badly for an innocent civilian and that only one LEO was injured by friendly fire.

You and I must have some broadly differing interpretations of the word guarantee

Nope. I think you and I are on the same page.
I should have put "guarantee" in quotes.
