    Default Gator Pistol!

12 days left until I get to go on my first gator hunt. Just left the gun shop with a New Model Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag. -7.5" barrel. I decided on the .44 because the .45 bullets were out. I am sure it won't make a difference at point blank for a gator. Just took a closer look at my bullets 240gr. @ 1178 FPS. That sounds HOT! I don' have any experience with large cal pistols. Heading out to the firing range now, I hope it ain't too hot!

Don't worry. You can go "hotter" in a Ruger S.B.H if you choose. The most important thing is to not go so "hot" you can not easily control the revolver for fast and accurate followup shots.

If you can shoot accurately with a 240 grains bullet at 1,178 FPS, that's all you'll need.

Have fun on your excursion. Pictures please.

Thanks ya'll! We will see! Hunter, the largest caliber is recommended by DNR. I was going to use .22 magnum but everyone thought I needed more....so, I got more!

The laws are different here for gator, I must have the gator at point blank on lines before I can shoot'em...more is gooder right?

My bang stick is in .44 magnum. I was holding a six footer down with my foot on its back while my buddy grabbed my bang stick. I set the bang stick to the back of that little fellows head and gave it a slap on the end with my other hand.

Well, the round went right through the guy and blasted mud and gator brains back up at me. I had my mouth open and got a good taste of that mess. Dank swamp mud and dang gator brains. Mmmmm.... Uhmmm. Uhnn Uhnnnn.

Just remember you can knock a gator out with out killing it. So, server their spines and scramble their brains. Nothing quite as exciting as having a big ole gator come back to life in a boat unexpectedly.

I knocked this pig out with a .44 magnum. she came back too after a shot to the head.

I will hopefully have safety glasses on, I can deal with the taste, apprehensive about my perfect eyes though!

44 Mag works well on everything with the right load. A 240gr loaded at over 1100 fps will punch a hole completely through a gator head.

Good luck on your gator hunt. I'm thinking that I need a gator pistol. I've never owned a 44 mag but have been wanting to remedy that shortcoming. I'll have to run it by the wife.
so the definition of a criminal is someone who breaks the law and you want me to believe that somehow more laws make less criminals?

Unconscious gators and hogs. There's two more for the list. We might just want to cut Florida loose and let it float toward Cuba. You shoot a rabbit around here with a .44 I promise you that sucker ain't comin' back to life anytime soon.

If you are at point blank range, a .22lr, 22mag, or even a .357 with 180gr hard lead would work just fine without the recoil of the .44.
    I know what hunts you.

I have a 70lb Bear rigged with a slotted retriever and a float. But, more than likely I will get the gator snagged with rod and reel first. Then hopefully get an arrow in. I am not sure how it will play out.
