    Default Best hammock

Anyone have personal experience with either a Hennessey Hammock or Warbonnet Blackbird? Can't decide on which one to get. Tough call because I have a 50% off discount at Hennessey Hammocks, but a lot of reviews I read seem to lead toward the Blackbird. Anyone?

Even when the difference will be $100-$200? Blackbird doesn't come with a rainfly and is way more expensive.

What features would make 1-200 buck difference? Just the footbox and shelf?

I only have experience with a Hennessey and I like mine a lot. It is comfortable and easy to put up. I even have one for my granddaughter and she is only five and sleeps in it like a baby.

I have a Hennessy and don't have any complaints. It is my only experience with hammocks with netting built in.

I'm pretty sure I've got a Hennessy laying around, it works great, unless of course a thunderstorm comes rolling by in the early morning...

You asked for the best. The blackbird is the best. I have slept in both, and the blackbird is extremely comfortable. That being said, the Hennessy is a great hammock. It is much better than most on the market, and probably one of the most comfortable, but it isn't as good as the blackbird. You really can't go wrong with either. If I got a Hennessy, I would make sure it was a side entry.

The best time to lay in a hammock is during a thunderstorm. With a tarp, of course.

I've got a Hennessy Expedition with the side zipper. I just got it and this year and absolutely love it. Was out in a downpour last weekend and was dry as a bone.

Yeah, I would go with the side zipper which they offered as a mod back when I got my Hennessey.

I have weathered some pretty good storms and no real issues. I just slid the prusik knots in on the rain fly tie outs and let them pull the sides in a little.

Thanks for the replies. I just put in my order for the henesey explorer hyper lite. If I don't like it or its uncomfortable I'm sure I can at least get the 135 I paid for it being. $270

I love my hammock, and kicked back during a rain storm will be very peaceful.

Last camping trip I took ground gear because me and the daughter shared a tent... I woke up looking for the plate number of the milk truck that hit me... I hate ground sleeping!

Supposedly you can use it as a ground tent too. Well see how that works. I remember having a cheap hammock as a kid and being surprised at how hard it is to find two suitable trees.

The spot we usually camp in for opening archery didn't have any place to tie between trees that wasn't already taken by tents or too dangerous to set up where someone might pull in late or out early and maybe snag a rope. So I used my truck as an anchor.

Note that I anchored through the doors and over the top. It is on the drivers side so you will definitely not forget that it is there and drive away.

It can also be tough to find trees configured right for side tie outs in "camps".

I used some bank line to tie from the tree I tied the main suspension line to and then to another tree off to the side to create a tie point for the side tie out on the rain fly.

Don't forget you can use the rain fly without the hammock or snug the hammock up under the rainfly inside the snake skins like I have here. to use as a sun shade or rain cover.

Before I bought the Hennessy I had tried just slinging a cheap pocket hammock and used a tarp for rain. It worked fine too. You just had to spray on a good layer of bug spray before bed. LOL

Thanks for the pictures. I can't believe it's here already. We ordered Thursday evening and it arrived Saturday morning.

So I set it up in my living room using two cheap hooks I screwed into the studs in the wall. This thing is huge. Took up most of the living room. The snake skins are amazing. I slept in it last night to give it a test. It's pretty comfy, i'm very happy. Only thing I didn't like was a 5 AM wake up when the hooks pulled out and I came crashing down LOL.
