Ever read The Teeth of the Tiger by Tom Clancy?
As for the book, no. I noticed your post on insider trading and I felt like you had been standing over my shoulder while I was composing my post (or vice versa). Spooky!

Teeth of the Tiger - Plot Summary: "In Rome, a Mossad station chief is assassinated. The murder piques the interest of the Campus, an "off-the-books" intelligence agency situated in direct line-of-sight between the CIA and the NSA. A private military company, Hendley Associates, funds the Campus via stock market trades influenced by the captured intelligence data, thus removing federal oversight and allowing free rein in its operations."

A lot, A LOT, of Clancy's works are based on fact.

Wow! It's getting hard to have an original thought anymore. With 7+ billion people on the planet someone has likely been there, done that.
I was just kind of brainstorming this afternoon when the idea just "struck" me. Darn that Tom Clancy, nobody gets credit for coming in second place.

That is what the STOCK act was supposed to be fore. I believe there was something similar for employees of the Executive earlier, but I can't recall.

You know, it dawned on my that the problem with the NSA is not that they are violating the Constitution or doing anything illegal. The problem is they don't have a marketing plan. So I took the liberty of putting together some advertising they might consider just to help their cause along. Along with a snappy catch phrase or course. See what you think.

"A writ of assistance is a written order (a writ) issued by a court instructing a law enforcement official, such as a sheriff or a tax collector, to perform a certain task. Historically, several types of writs have been called "writs of assistance".[1] Most often, a writ of assistance is "used to enforce an order for the possession of lands".[2] When used to evict someone from real property, such a writ is also called a writ of restitution or a writ of possession.[3] In the area of customs, writs of assistance were first authorized by an act of the English Parliament in 1660 (12 Charles 2 c. 29),[4] and were issued by the Court of Exchequer to help customs officials search for smuggled goods. These writs were called "writs of assistance" because they called upon sheriffs, other officials, and loyal subjects to "assist" the customs official in carrying out his duties.[5]

In general, customs writs of assistance served as general search warrants that did not expire, allowing customs officials to search anywhere for smuggled goods without having to obtain a specific warrant. These writs became controversial when they were issued by courts in British America in the 1760s, especially the Province of Massachusetts Bay. Controversy over these general writs of assistance inspired the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which forbids general search warrants in the United States. In the United Kingdom, general writs of assistance continued to be issued until 1819."

General Alexander testified before Congress today and answered a number of questions related to the collection of metadata and PRISM in general.

"Alexander defended the bulk collection by saying it was necessary to give the NSA the widest possible data pool so it can then query the phone-records database for specific terrorist interaction with Americans. Once the NSA has "reasonable, articulable suspicions" of a person's suspected involvement in terrorism, Alexander said, "we can go backwards in time and see who he was talking to," and pass that information to the FBI.

"If you don't have that, how do you know who [a terrorist] was talking to?" Alexander told senator Mike Johanns, Republican of Nebraska, who worried that the database could lead to a "telephone records search for all of Omaha."

Well, it's actually pretty simple, General. You know when the call is in progress who the terrorist is talking to. That's the easy part. THEN you get a court order to acquire the suspect's information and or tap the phone. You don't have to have metadata on 15 million people to track one. Palease.

I don't particularly want to open up the door on this thing again but if you would like to read Snowden's question and answer session on the Guardian you can do so here:
