Thank you to all the Vets here for your service to our nation! May God continue to bless and watch over those in uniform today. You are not forgotten.
Thanks Hunter. I honor "those that gave all" every day I'm alive. They are the real heroes in my book.
I also have to mention me remembering a certain president's comment on Memorial Day a few years ago - honoring those vets, some of them are with us today. Didn't know a seance was on the schedule.
When Wealth is Lost, Nothing is Lost;
When Health is Lost, Something is Lost;
When Character is Lost, ALL IS LOST!!!!!!!
Colonel Charles Hyatt circa 1880
I'll be attending two ceremonies. The first at the Veterans Memorial Wall and participating in the second where the Chaplains lost in the line of duty are being honored.
While it is appreciated when veterans are thanked and remembered, please do not lose sight of what the Memorial Day Observance is. It is to honor those that were killed in the line of duty. No truer words have been spoken ---- all gave some - some gave all. These men and women gave all in defense of their country. RIP and God bless them along with their families.

Make sure all in your family remember those who gave all.

Remembering all our fallen with brotherly love and honor. It was an honor to wear the uniform. Delta
I wonder what it would take to make it unlawful for any commercial entity to involk "Memorial Day" or "Veterans' Day" into their advertising? Contrary to their opinion, I am not going to buy a vehicle or anything else just because it is Memorial Day or Veterans' Day. Our dead, wounded and honorable men and women have nothing to do with them making a profit. If you just have to have a sale, don't use these holidays as an excuse.
We are truly blessed that this country never has had nor does it have a shortage of men and women willing to place themselves in harm's way for the sake of liberty. God bless all who have served and are serving.
We had two identical threads started so I merged them.

Great thread and many great post! Thanks to all who have served. God bless all that have fallen, along with their families. This from one of them.

I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.
backpacker, I really choked up when I read your post. The loss of your Dad in service to our nation was a great sacrifice for you and your family. May God Bless you all.

I would like to echo Ken's words. It's a poignant reminder that the loss of a single person creates everlasting ripples in the pool of life.

@backpacker - ditto what others have said.
Thanks guys. It is appreciated, he died doing what he loved. But just one of many.
The really sad thing is so many of them died after they came back and couldn't readjust, or from the chemicals they had dumped on them while in country. I was able to attend a reunion of the guys that served with him in 1966. So many of them had major health issues and children with multiple birth defects due to being sprayed with Agent Orange and other defoilants.
Even with all that, what a great bunch of guys. Thats a weekend I will never forget! I also got to meet his platoon Sgt who was kind enough to fill me in on what happened that day. One hell of a man Sgt "Sully Sullivan" is.
