    Venezuela ends toilet paper shortage

Venezuela's National Assembly has backed plans to import 39 million rolls of toilet paper, in an effort to relieve a chronic shortage.

Well, I certainly hope they're getting the good stuff that their fingers won't poke through. The stuff that doesn't leave all sorts of "lint" behind in their behinds. The stuff that doesn't give adults diaper rash. The stuff - well, you know.

The second worst TP is the shiny stuff you had in the school toilets.

Also, it's good to know my National TV Broadcasting company reports important world news!

Yeah, those are real world problems when you even keep stocked on s#@# tickets.

I wonder if they could just use all the paperwork required to apply for a firearm owner's license in that country.

I lived in Venezuela from 96 to 99 and there were several things that were hard to get even then. Fresh milk was hard to get, and we would have to go to different stores depending on which meat we were trying to buy. All markets had goat meat, but if you wanted steak or pork, different stores kept that. When the grocery stores would run low on things, they would stock an entire row in the store with Pepsi Cola, or some kind os soda we had never heard of!
Crafts macaroni and cheese could not be found, or sour cream. I paid almost $500 dollars for a small 15" Sony TV because electronics prices were through the roof. But gasoline was 16 cents per gallon...................WTF

I'm a very big fan of goat, but if choices are to be had, I can imagine it getting old very quick.

I was, too. Then I went to a party last summer and was served the absolute worst meat I can imagine. They must have found a goat that ran marathons until it died of old age and dunked it in used motor oil every 5 minutes while they roasted it. It was one of those experiences that make you stay away from something for years.

I understand the phenomenon. I once (age about 15) drank most of a bottle of overproof gin that tastes exactly the way that Brut cologne smells. I couldn't smell cologne without feeling ill for months, nor drink gin until I was 25.

Maybe they'll get the sandpaper that is stocked here at work. That corn cob wouldn't be a lot worse.

Wow! Looks like they got a little behind in production and are at the bottom of the supply. Now would be a good time for some serious investor to wipe up the market and not spend a roll doing it.

According to my dearly departed dad, you start with a red cob, then use a light colored one to see if you need another red one.

Just a little factiod in case you ever run out of tp, junk mail and telephone books or other options.

Reminds me of the "Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 1974" in Korea. A rumor of a dock strike resulting in a shortage of toilet paper for the US military in Korea resulted in hoarding and an actuial shortage.

I toured the country fairly extensively back in 2001. We didn't buy groceries as we ate most our meals at restaurants. I do remember an excellent steakhouse in Merida near the Teleferico (sp?) terminal, and a Bavarian themed place in Colonia Tovar where I shared a mixed platter of grilled meats (beef, pork, rabbit, and chicken but no goat). There was an awesome Sunday afternoon spent in San Fernando de Apure where we dined on bbq beef, yucca root, tomatoes, and endless bottles of Polar beer while being serenaded by local musicians. I guess it may depend on where you were in Venezuela, but finding some surprisingly good beef was never a problem for me during my short time there.
